The purpose of this paper is to examine the genealogy and its meaning of the translation of hero novels published from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. At the end of the 19th century, Korean classical novels moved out of the limited space and time of Korea. For foreigners, Korean classical novels were a Korean language textbook and an important research material to look at to know Korea. Looking at the list of Korean classical novels collected by foreigners, the status of hero novels is very high. On the other hand, there are only four cases in which hero novels have been translated: Im jang gun-jeon(「임장군전」), Jo Woong-jeon(「조웅전」), Baek hak seon-jeon(「백학선전」), and Hong Gil-Dong-jeon(「홍길동전」). Examining the genealogy of the translation of hero novels, it is possible to derive the logic and pattern of selection/exclusion of hero novels in the early modern era. It is not a book enjoyed by Koreans in the past, but a story and a literary work to examine Korean nationality and Korean nationality.
