본 연구의 목적은 2022 개정 교육과정에 따른 지리 교육과정 개발 방향과 개발 과정에 대한 고찰을 통해 그 특징을 밝히고, 학교 현장의 성공적인 정착 지원과 차기 지리 교육과정 개발을 위한 시사점을 모색하는 것이다. 2022 개정 교육과정은 미래 사회변화에 적극적으로 대응할 수 있는 기초소양과 역량을 함양하여, ‘포용성과 창의성을 갖춘 주도적인 사람’으로 성장할 수 있도록우리 교육의 체제를 혁신하기 위해 이루어졌다. 2022 개정 지리 교육과정에서도 총론에서 강조하고 있는 역량 함양 및 학습자 맞춤형 교육과정, 내용 중복성 축소, 학습량과 수준의 적정화, 내용의 타당성 제고, 계열성 확보, 미래 지향적 교수･학습 및 평가 방안모색을 통한 교실 수업 개선 등을 종합적으로 고려하여 교육과정을 개발하였다. 또한 ‘국민과 함께하는 교육과정’이라는 취지에따라 다양한 교육 주체의 의견과 국가･사회적 요구사항을 반영하고자 하였다. 특히, 새롭게 개설된 고등학교 지리 선택과목 교육과정을 충실하게 개발하고자 하였으며, 이에 따라 중학교 지리 교육과정 내용도 크게 변하였다. 그러나 현 교육과정 편제표에 지리과목명을 명시하는 것과 중학교 사회 과목을 지리와 일반사회로 분리하는 것은 아직 과제로 남아 있다.
The purpose of this study is to consider the geographic curriculum development direction and development process according to the revised 2022 curriculum, and to seek for supporting its successful settlement and implicating for development of the next geographic curriculum. The revised 2022 curriculum was designed to innovate our education system so that we can grow into a “leading people with inclusion and creativity” by cultivating basic knowledge and capabilities to respond actively to future social changes. In the revised 2022 geographic curriculum, the curriculum was developed by comprehensively considering capacity development, learner-specific curriculum, content redundancy reduction, appropriation of learning volume and level, content validity improvement, sequence securing, and lesson improvement of future-oriented teaching/learning and evaluation measures. In addition, it was intended to reflect the various opinions of educational officials, national and social requirements in accordance with the purpose of ‘curriculum with the people’. In particular, it was intended to faithfully develop the newly opened high school geography elective curriculum, and accordingly, the contents of the middle school geography curriculum changed significantly. However, it still remains a task to specify the name of the geography subject in the current curriculum compilation table and to separate the social studies in middle school into Geography and General social studies.
