연구 목적: 본 연구는 야마다 요지 감독의 시대극 3부작을 대상으로 영화 속에 나타나는 하급무사 가정의 식사 양상을 ‘식사의 기능과 의미’를 중심으로 고찰한 것이다. 연구 방법: 야마다 요지 감독의 시대극 3부작에 재현되고 있는 식사 장면이 가지는 의미를 등장인물의 특징과 내러티브 등을 통해 분석하였다. 연구 내용: 영화 『황혼의 세이베』에서의 ‘죽’과 『비검, 오니의 손톱』에서의 ‘미음’은 생존을 위해 먹어야 하는 ‘생명의 식사’이고, 영화 『비검, 오니의 손톱』에서의 ‘돈가라지루‘는 친구와 함께하는 ’연회의 식사’이며, 영화 『무사의 체통』에서의 ‘데친 토란조림’은 부부 관계를 강화하는 요리라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 결론 및 제언: 야마다 요지 감독의 시대극 3부작에 등장하는 식사 장면은 영화의 서사를 추동하는 핵심적인 오브제로 작용하는 것을 확인하였다.
This study examines the meal patterns of low-ranking samurai families in the trilogy of period dramas directed by Yoji Yamada, focusing on the ‘function and meaning of meals’. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the meaning of the meal scenes reproduced in Yoji Yamada’s period drama trilogy was analyzed through the characters’ characteristics and narratives. As a result of the study, ‘Okayu’ in the movie ‘The Twilight Samurai’ and ‘Omoyu (thin gruel)’ in the movie ‘The Hidden Blade’ is the ‘meal of life’, and ‘Dongara Jiru’ in the movie ‘The Hidden Blade’ is a ‘meal at a banquet’ with friends, and ‘Imogarano nimono’ in the movie ‘Love and Honor’ is a ‘meal to strengthen the marital relationship’. In conclusion, it was found that the meal scene in ‘Yoji Yamada’s period drama trilogy’ acts as a key objet that drives the narrative of the film.
