본 연구는 성 암브로시우스의 혼인관을 통해 혼인의 의미를 되돌아보고 그 가치를 되새기는 것을 목적으로 하며, 이를 위해 신뢰할 만한 비평본인 『암브로시우스 전집(Opera omnia di Sant'Ambrogio)』에 나타난 ‘혼인(matrimonium)’을 중심으로 그 의미와 맥락을 파악한다. 뛰어난 영적 지도자이면서 또한 훌륭한 사목자였던 암브로시우스는 혼인에 대해서 깊이 이해하고 통찰하였다. ‘혼인’은 그의 저서 10권에서 총 20회 걸쳐 사용되며, 성경 구절을 직접 인용한 경우는 총 7번이다. 여기에는 혼인이 가진 문자적 의미 뿐 아니라 영적, 신비적 의미도 잘 드러난다. 암브로시우스는 무엇보다 사목자로서 현실의 혼인 생활에서 일어나는 어려움을 깊이 통찰하고 있었고, 혼인이 보호받고 존중되어야 한다는 것을 잊지 않았다. 가장 많이 인용된 1코린 7,38의 구절은 암브로시우스가 동정 생활에 대해 높은 가치를 부여하면서도, 혼인의 가치를 결코 부정하지 않았음을 잘 드러낸다. 혼인은 교회를 풍요롭게 하는 여러 생활 형태 가운데 하나이며, 고유한 가치를 가지고 동시에 고귀한 책임도 지닌다. 동정 생활이 뛰어난 길이기는 하지만, 혼인 생활을 통해서도 많은 이가 덕의 길로 나아갈 수 있기에, 각자가 적합한 길을 충실히 따라가는 것이 무엇보다 중요하다.
This study aims to reflect the meaning of Marriage through the view of the Marriage of St. Ambrose. To identify the view of St. Ambrose, the ‘Matrimonium’ featured in the work of 'Opera omnia di Sant’Ambrogio', which is the trustworthy critical edition is used. Saint Ambrose, who is an outstanding spiritual leader and Pastor, had profound understanding and discernment. The word ‘Matrimonium’ is used 20 times in his writing of 10 volumes. Direct quotations from the Bible are 7 times. In this work, not only the literal meaning but also spiritual and mystical meanings are shown well. Above all, St. Ambrose, as a Pastor, had a deep understanding of the difficulties that arose during the Marriage and did not forget that Marriage should always be protected and respected. 1Co. 7.38, which had the most quotation shows St. Ambrose gave high value to Celibacy but did not deny the value of Marriage. Marriage is one of the many aspcects of life that enriches the Church. Also has its meaning and noble responsibility. Celibacy is an outstanding way of life, but the Life of Marriage can also lead to Virtue so each one should walk their own life is most important.
