학령인구 감소, 대학생의 취업률 하락 등의 문제와 맞물려 대학은 교육과정의 변화를 요구받고 있다. 이에 대부분의 대학은 대학생활의 적응을 유도하고 진로를 탐색하는 교과목을 설계해 운영 중이다. 대학의 환경에 따라 커리큘럼은 상이하지만 교과목의 운영 목적은 동일하다. 신입생이 대학생활에 흥미를 가지고 진로를 탐색해 나갈 수 있도록 지원하는 것이다. 본 연구는 전북 소재 4년제 W대학의 신입생 교양 필수 교과목 <대학생활과 자기혁신>을 대상으로 대학생활 관련 교과목 운영의 효용과 개선 가능성을 점검하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 교과목을 수강한 신입생 2,987명 중 623명을 대상으로 사후 설문을 진행했다. 설문을 반영해 학과별 15주차 수업 계획안을 개발하고 이를 공유해 수업 질 개선의 노력을 촉구했다. 일련의 과정을 통해 대학생활 및 진로 탐색 관련 교과목의 의의를 다음과 같이 확인할 수 있었다. 첫째, <대학생활과 자기혁신>교과목은 대학생의 대학생활 적응도 향상에 효과가 있다. 둘째, 신입생들에게 진로 동기를 부여하고 진로 준비 행동을 해 나가게 할 수 있다. 마지막으로 대학생활 적응과 진로 탐색 활동을 조화롭게 적용해 해당 교과목을 운영한다면 대학생의 정착률 제고, 이탈 방지에 도움을 줄 수 있다. 교과목의 지속적인 개발, 운영, 공유의 선순환 구조 마련은 궁극적으로 대학의 위기를 극복해 나갈 타개책이 되어줄 것이다.
Changes in the curriculum are required of universities in connection with the problems such as the decrease in school-age populations and decline in college students’ employment rate. Thus, most universities design and operate subjects for inducing college life adaptation and career exploration. The curriculum differs depending on the environment of the university, but the purpose of the operation of the subjects is the same: That is to support freshmen so that they can have interest in college life and explore their careers. This study aims to inspect the utility of the operation and the possibility of the improvement of subjects related to college life with the “College Life and Self-Innovation,” a required liberal arts course for freshmen at W. University, a four-year college located in Jeonbuk. This study conducted a follow-up survey with 623 out of 2,987 freshmen who took the subject. This study developed a 15-week class plan by the department, reflecting the questionnaire and encouraged them to make an effort to improve the class quality, sharing this. Through a series of courses, the significance of college life and career exploration-related subjects was found as follows: First, the “College Life and Self-Innovation” subject has an effect on the enhancement of college students’ college life adaptation. Second, it can give career motivation to freshmen and allow them to do career preparation activity. Lastly, the operation of the subject, applying college life adaptation and career exploration activity harmoniously can help promote college students’ settlement rate and prevent their leaving. The preparation for the virtuous circle structure of the continuous development, operation, and sharing of subjects will be a solution to the overcoming of crises in colleges.
