본고의 목적은 『석가여래수행기』 소재 불전설화와 <금송아치젼>의 비교를 중심으로 불전설화의 서사적 성격과 주제를 살펴보는 것이다. 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 불전설화의 서사적 성격이다. 불전설화 <금독태자전>과 불교계 소설 <금송아치젼>은 시련과 해소의 반복이란 서사구조가 공통되고, 시련의 대목에서 적대자와 주변 인물들은 내적갈등을 한다. 적대자는 해치지 말아야될 대상이라는 당위와 개인적인 욕구 사이에서 갈등한다. 주변 인물들은 해치지 말아야 될 대상이라는 당위와 어쩔 수 없이 해쳐야 하는 현실 사이에서 갈등한다. <금독태자전>에서는 시와 서술로 표현되어 내적갈등이 미약하고, <금송아치젼>에서는 내적독백과 대화로 표현되어 내적갈등이 선명하다. 둘째, 불전설화의 주제이다. <금독태자전>에서는 전생의 인연으로 시련이 있고, 결연이 있다는 언급이 있다. 그런데 전생 인연에 대한 구체적인 내용이 없다. 『석가여래십지수행기』에 수록된 여타의 설화에서 석가여래의 전생 주인공들은 시련을 극복하는 탁월한 행적을 남겨 석가여래가 된다. <금독태자전>에서 시련의 원인은 적대자의 욕구이다. 적대자와 주변 인물들의 내적갈등으로 주인공은 시련을 당하지 말아야 하는 인물임에도 부당하게 시련을 당한다는 것을 알 수 있다. 부당한 시련을 인내하는 원만한 인격의 인물상, 극기의 인물상이 주제이다. <금송아치젼>에서도 적대자와 주변 인물들의 내적갈등으로 주인공은 시련을 당하지 말아야 하는 인물임에도 부당하게 시련을 당한다는 것을 알 수 있다. 부당한 시련을 인내하는 원만한 인격의 인물상, 극기의 인물상이 주제이다. <금독태자전>에서는 ‘전생 인연’이 부각되고, 적대자와 주변 인물의 내적갈등이 시와 서술로 표현되어 주제가 미약하고, <금송아치젼>에서는 ‘천상 질서’가 부각되고, 적대자와 주변 인물의 내적갈등이 내적독백과 대화로 표현되어 주제가 선명하다.
In this thesis, I aim at investing The Narrative disposition and Theme in Tale of Buddhist scriptures. The result is as follow. The Narrative disposition in Tale of Buddhist scriptures : The repetition of the ordeal and the solution of an ordeal is the narrative structure in Tale of Buddhist scriptures(Sokkayoraesipchisuhaenggi) and <Keumsongajijeon>. The inner world of antagonist embody the conflict and the inner world of surrounding people supplement the conflict. Tale of Buddhist scriptures is similar to the buddhist novel in terms of the narrative structure and the inner world of antagonist and surrounding people. The inner complications in Tale of Buddhist scriptures is expressed through poet and description and so the inner complications is faint. The inner complications in <Keumsongajijeon> is expressed through an interior monologue and dialogue and so the inner complications is clear. Theme in Tale of Buddhist scriptures : The theme in Tale of Buddhist scriptures(Sokkayoraesipchisuhaenggi) being related with <Keumsongajijeon> is different with the other Tale of Buddhist scriptures(Sokkayoraesipchisuhaenggi). The ordeal is set up by the jealousy of antagonist. The outstanding deeds of protagonist is noting. The protagonist undergo the ordeal being caused by the antagonist but the protagonist does not react. The wrongful the ordeal being caused by the antagonist is emphasized through the inner complications of antagonist and surrounding people. The protagonist is a well-integrated person and a stoic person that is patient with the wrongful the ordeal being caused by the antagonist. The theme is the well-integrated person and a stoic person. The theme in Tale of Buddhist scriptures is faint because the inner complications is expressed through poet and desciption. The theme in <Keumsongajijeon> is clear because the inner complications is expressed through an interior monologue and dialogue.
