본고는 미학의 주요개념인 숭고와 아름다움에 대한 니체 고유의 의미를 규명하는 것을목표로 한다. 본 연구자는 니체의 사유가 오랜 전통의 형이상학을 극복하였으며, 이는 그가 철학의 한 하위분과로서 시작된 미학을 철학 자체를 대체하는 사상적 실천으로 확장함으로써 성취하였다고 주장한다. 이러한 니체 해석을 입증하기 위해, 니체가 자신의 사상적기획에 단초가 되어준 근대미학을 어떻게 비판적으로 계승하였는지를 살피고자 한다. 이러한 과정에서 니체가 도달한 일원론적 미학 안에서 숭고 및 아름다움 개념이 갖는 실존적 차원의 의미를 규명해 낼 것이다. 이는 니체 사상이 근대미학을 위시한 당대 철학과갖는 관계를 규명하는 것일 뿐만 아니라, 우리 시대 사상가들의 숭고론과의 연관성을 확인하는 작업이 될 것이다. 이로써 본고는 오늘날 니체 사유가 갖는 의의 및 의미를 읽어내는 연구를 위한 준비작업의 역할 또한 하리라 여겨진다.
This article studies Nietzsche’s own meanings of the sublime and beauty, which are the core concepts in Aesthetics. I argue that Nietzsche’s thoughts overcome perceptions of Metaphysics which had lasted from the time of the ancient Greeks to his times by making aesthetics an alternative to philosophy which used to be one of the subdivisions of philosophy. To validate it, I investigate how Nietzsche appropriates modern aesthetics which provides a clue to his philosophical project. In this process, I clarify the existential meanings of the sublime and beautiful in Nietzsche’s own aesthetics. This is not only to analyze how Nietzsche’s thoughts are related to metaphysics including modern aesthetics. It is also a work to verify affinities between Nietzsche’s and the contemporary theory of the sublime. Therefore, this article is to be a foundation for further research on the contemporary significations of Nietzsche’s thoughts.
