본 연구는 함경남도 정평군 《지지조서》 편철 문서에 나타난 지명을 대상으로 한글 표기법과 한역 지명 표기 실태를 분석하는 것이 목적이다. 1911년 경에 작성된 《조선지지자료》의 함경도 지명 자료가 누락된 상태이기 때문에 1917년에 작성된 함경남도 《지지조서》는 당시의 한글 표기 지명을 확인할 수 있는 중요한 자료이다. 이 때문에 《지지조서》 편철문서에 실려있는 함경도 정평군의 지명 자료를 면밀히 검토하고 해석하는 일은 중요한 작업이다. 본 연구에서는 함경도 정평군 《지지조서》의 12개 면별 필사본 자료를 분석하여 필사본 원전의 재구하고, 나타난 한역 표기 지명과 한글 표기 지명을 확인하여 자료로 제시한 후에 이에 대한 한글 표기법과 한역 표기법을 살펴보았다. 한글 표기 지명을 대상으로 고유 지명소를 분석하고 당시의 표기법이 다양한 양상을 보이고 있음을 확인하였다. 그리고 한역 지명을 지명의 전부요소와 후부요소로 나누어 구체적인 표기 양상을 확인하였다. 표기된 지명의 어원에 대해서는 지형과 현지조사 등이 필요하기 때문에 후일의 연구로 남겨 두었다.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the actual state of Korean orthography and Chinese character translation orthography for place names appearing in the Filed Documents of 《Jijijoseo》, Jeongpyeong-gun, Hamgyeongnam-do. Because Hamgyeong-do place names in the 《JoseonJijijaryo》 written around 1911 are missing, the Hamgyeongnam-do 《Jijijoseo》 written in 1917 is an important data to confirm the Korean alphabet placename at the time. For this reason, it is important to closely examine and interpret the placename data of Jeongpyeong-gun, Hamgyeong-do, which is included in the File Documents of 《Jijijoseo》. In this study, 12 myeon manuscripts of <Jijijoseo> in Jeongpyeong-gun, Hamgyeong-do were reconstructed from the original text, and Korean alphabet placenames and Chinese character translation placenames were identified and presented as data. In addition, Korean placename elements were analyzed for Korean alphabet placenames, and it was confirmed that orthography at the time showed various aspects. Then, targeting Chinese character translation placenames, the detailed transcription method was confirmed by dividing them into the antecedent elements of place names and the posterior elements of place names. The etymology of the indicated place names is left for future research because topography and field research are required.
