본 논문은 교차성이란 용어가 거의 모든 분과학문에서 분석방법으로 받아들여진 최근의 역사를 개괄하면서 해당 개념이 형성되는 과정에서 페미니즘, 특히 블랙 페미니즘의기여가 지대했음을 짚는다. 블랙 페미니스트들은 인종, 젠더, 계급과 같은 단일한 정체성축으로 정의할 수 없는 흑인 여성들의 정체성을 보다 정교하게 논의해야 할 필요를 역설하며 교차성 개념을 발달시켜왔고 따라서 교차성 페미니즘이라는 담론의 형성에 마땅히기여했다. 이러한 맥락에서 오늘날 교차성 페미니즘이라는 분석렌즈는 기존 정체성 정치의 한계를 지적하고 그 한계를 극복할 수 있는 비전을 제시한다고 볼 수 있는데, 본 논문은 “49세의 흑인 레즈비언 블랙 페미니스트이자, 한 아들을 포함한 두 아이의 엄마이자” 시인으로 스스로를 정체화했던 오드리 로드의 시 세계를 교차성 페미니즘이 수행된 문학적 장으로 본다. 일찍이 교차성 페미니즘의 핵심 개념들을 제시하며 주목받아 온 로드의산문 작품들이 아니라 그의 시를 논의하고자 하는 것은 시라는 문학 장르가 서정이 본격적으로 수행되는 장이고 그 과정 속에서 서정주체 나를 규명하는 문제가 교차성 페미니즘담론과 긴밀히 관계하기 때문이다. 정체성 정치의 한계를 논하고 교차성 페미니즘의 맹점을 극복하는 적극적인 저기서사의 장으로서의 로드의 시를 읽으며 교차성 페미니즘을 논의할 뿐만 아니라 시라는 장르의 현대적 변모를 살필 수 있다.
This article first surveys the brief history of almost every discipline adopting intersectionality as an analytic tool for their own study. Then it points out that feminism, especially Black feminism, has largely contributed to the development of discourse. While stressing the necessity to consider Black female identity more elaborately, black feminists undoubtedly played a significant role in forming the discourse of intersectional feminism. Black feminists criticized the limits of existing identity politics and suggested ways to disregard those limits. In this vein, this article analyzes the poetry of Audre Lorde, a member of Combahee River Collective, a collective of Black feminists that introduced the intersectional feminist idea even before the term was coined by Kimberlé Crenshaw, because her poetry is the very literary stage to practice intersectional feminism. Lorde is well known for her works of prose, but her poetry is worth being examined as the very process of self-narrative, which is the core practice of lyrics in defining the lyric subject ‘I.’ The process of defining lyrical subject is intimately related to practicing intersectional feminism by Lorde, who identified herself as “a forty-nine-year-old Black lesbian feminist socialist mother of two” as well as a poet. Reading poems of Lorde as active self-narrating works, her poetry enables a poetic stage for intersectional feminism and a contemporary modification of lyrical works.
