이 연구는 자신의 임신중지 경험에 관한 책임의식을 바탕으로 자기 몸과 삶에 있어 주체성을 발휘하면서 이를 신앙과 통합시키고자 한 가톨릭여성 신자들의 고투를 가시화하고 그 의미를 해석한다. 한국의 낙태죄 폐지 국면에서 법 폐지를 가장 앞장서서 반대한 사회세력이자 종교조직인 가톨릭교회 안에 있는 임신중지 경험자 여성들의 존재와 목소리가 그동안 묻혀만 있던 것이었기에 이를 구체적으로 드러냄으로써 ‘낙태 반대’만을 부르짖는 가톨릭교회 공식 담론에 균열을 내고자했다. 여성들은 전인성과 존엄성을 갖고 자신의 재생산 능력이 일으키는 딜레마와 맞서 싸우면서 평생을 두고 깊이 있는 성찰을 해내는 존재들이다. 이 연구는 스스로 결정하고 행위하며 또한 자신의 상처와 끊임없이 씨름하면서 영적 성장을 이뤄내는 자율적 힘을 가진 존재로 임신중지 경험자여성을 자리매김하였다. 이에 대한 적극적인 고려를 담은 교회 사목 현장의 실천적 변화를 요청하는 바이다
This study attempts to visualize and interpret the struggles of Korean women who try to maintain their faith while exercising their independence over their bodies and lives based on their sense of responsibility for ending their pregnancy. In Korea, the Catholic Church, as a social force and religious organization, has taken the lead in opposing the abolition of the abortion ban. In the Catholic Church, the existence and voices of women who had abortions were suppressed. Against this backdrop, this study reveals their existence and voices in detail, exposing the division in the public discourse of the Catholic Church, which advocates the “opposition to abortion.” Women are holistic and dignified human beings. They fight the dilemma caused by their ability to reproduce while exercising deep reflection throughout their lives. This study elevates the post-abortive women to autonomous human beings who achieve spiritual growth, make independent decisions, act on their own, refuse to be defined by their scars, and constantly wrestle with difficult issues. It is important for the Catholic Church to proactively embrace this consideration to change the perspective of the social pastoral field.
