본 연구는 『홍길동전』 이본(異本)들의 상관관계를 파악하기 위하여 상관분석 및 계층분석을 수행하고, 이를 통해 기존의 이본 연구 간 충돌되는 지점에 대한 문제 해결의 실마리를 제공하고자 하였다. 분석 대상으로 삼은 텍스트는 조종업본, 정우락본, 경판24장본, 경판30장본, 완판36장본, 동양문고본, 박순호86장본, 정명기77장본이며, 이를 작품 전체 분량, 조종업본 분량, 전·후반부 분량 등으로 분석 단위를 설정하여 상관분석 및 계층분석을 수행하였다. 기존 연구를 바탕으로 그 결과를 해석하면 다음과 같다. 홍길동전 모본(母本)은 전반부와 후반부의 문체가 상이했을 것으로 추정된다. 홍길동전 모본은 어떤 과정을 거쳐 조종업본(1850년)과 유동 경판본(1847년)의 두 계열로 분리되었다. 조종업본의 영향으로 경판24장본 모본(1857년 이전)이 판각되고, 정우락본(1876년)이 필사되었다. 유동 경판본은 경판24장본 모본과의 시장 경쟁에서 밀려나 완판36장본(1857년)으로 탈바꿈된다. 경판24장본 모본의 직접적인 영향 아래 경판24장본과 경판30장본이 판각된다.
In this study, digital hierarchical analysis was performed to clarify the relationships between the various versions of Honggildongjeon. The analysis subjects were the “Jo Jong-eob version”(a missing volume), “Jung Woo-rak version”, “Gyeongpan 24-sheet version”, “Gyeongpan 30-sheet version”, “Wanpan 36-sheet version”, “Oriental library version”, “Park Soon-ho 86-sheet version” and “Jeong Myeong-gi 77-sheet version”. Correlation and hierarchical analyses were performed by dividing the units of analysis across the entire work, the amount of “Jo Jong-eob version” and the first and second halves. The interpretation of the results was based on previous studies. This study found that the early version of Honggildongjeon probably had different styles in the first and second halves. This early version was separated into two series, the “Jo Jong-eob version” (1850) and “Early Gyeongpan version” (1847), through a certain process. Under the influence of the “Jo Jong-eob version”, “Previous model of the Gyeongpan 24-sheet version” (before 1857) and “Jung Woo-rak version” (1876) were created. “Early Gyeongpan version” was replaced by “Wanpan 36-sheet version” (1857) due to the market competition with “Previous model of the Gyeongpan 24-sheet version”. “Gyeongpan 24-sheet version” and “Gyeongpan 30-sheet version” were created under the direct influence of “Previous model of the Gyeongpan 24-sheet version”
