현재 급속도로 발전하고 있는 자동화와 인공지능은 노동해방도 아니고 노동착취도 아닌 ‘노동소멸’을 초래할 가능성이 높다. 대량실업 정도가 아니라 인간노동이 필요 없어진다는 뜻이다. 아예 인간이 뭔가 구현하는 기능적 행위의 필요성이 사라지는 것이다. 이에 대비하고 예방하고 ‘막아야 한다’의 문제가 아니라, “이미 실현되고 있고 더 확산되고 있는 인공지능 기술과 문화 속에서 어떻게 살아가야 하는가?”의 문제이다. 우리는 대공황같은 경제문제를 훨씬 넘어서 근본적인 인간 실존의 문제를 직면해야 할 것이다. 그 때는 생각보다 빨리 찾아올 것이다. 어쩌면 우리 생애에 닥칠 현실일 수 있다. 이 글은 현재진행형인 인공지능 발전추세에 기반한 일종의 미래 예측 사고실험으로 AI의 유용성보다는 필연적으로 마주하게 될 문제 중심으로 고찰한 것이다. 본문의 질문들은 당장 해답을 구하기보다 급속한 기술 발전 속에서 인간 존재의 근본적인 의미에 대해 깊이 고민해 볼 화두가 되길 바라는 뜻에서 마련되었다.
Automation and artificial intelligence, which are currently rapidly developing, are highly likely to result in “labor extinction” that is neither labor emancipation nor labor exploitation. It means that human labor is no longer needed, not the extent of mass unemployment. The need for functional actions that humans “implement” disappears altogether. It is not a question of preparing for, preventing, and ‘blocking’, but rather, “How should we live in the already realized and expanding AI technology and culture?” We will have to face fundamental problems of human existence far beyond economic problems like the Great Depression. That time will come sooner than you think. It may be a reality in our lives. This article is a kind of future-predictive thought experiment based on the current progress of AI development, focusing on the problems that will inevitably face, rather than the usefulness of AI. It is hoped that some of the questions posed in this text will be used as a topic to deeply contemplate the fundamental meaning of human existence in the rapid technological development rather than seeking answers right away.
