본고에서는 그동안의 음운론 연구에서, 지금쯤 한 번 돌아볼 필요가 있다고 생각하는 주제 2가지에 대해 살펴보았다. 첫째, 통시적으로는 음 변화가 규칙적이라는 전제, 공시적으로는 규칙이 규칙적이어야 한다는 전제가 강조되면서 나타난 문제에 대해 살펴보았다. 이러한 관점에서 통시적 연구에서는 어휘확산이론, 공시적 연구에서는 복수기저형에 대해 검토하였다. 둘째, 규칙이 타당해야 한다는 전제가 정말 타당한지에 대해 고찰하였다. 규칙의 타당성보다는 있는 그대로의 음운 현상의 본질을 밝히는 것이 더 중요하다는 점을 확인하였다.
In this paper, I have looked at two topics that I think need to be looked back at by now in the study of phonology in the past. First, we looked at the problems that the premise that sound changes are regular diachronically and that rules should be regular synchronically. From this point of view, the lexical diffusion theory was reviewed in the diachronic study, and the multiple underlying in the synchronic study. The second subject considered whether the premise that the rule should be valid is really valid. Conclusionally, I argued that it is more important to investigate the nature of the phonological phenomenon rather than the validity of the rule.
