『통전』·『통지』·『문헌통고』는 삼통으로 일컬어지는 중국 전장제도를 정리한 서적들이다. 중국의 전통시대 관료들은 통치와 내정의 참조를 위해 정서를 탐독하였으며, 고려와조선의 관료들도 이를 크게 참조하였다. 당시 관료들은 삼통의 사이 서술을 참고하며 외국에 대한 정보를 파악하였다. 이번 연구에서는 『통전』·『통지』·『문헌통고』의 사료적 성격을 파악하고, 사이 서술 구성을 고찰하기 위하여 서문을 분석하였다. 그 결과 『통지』는 『통전』과 『후한서』를 참고하였고, 『문헌통고』은 『통전』의 기록을 바탕으로 서문을 작성하였음을 확인하였다. 또한 『통지』와 『문헌통고』에서 동이의 주요 국가 즉 조선·삼한·백제·신라·고구려의 서술을 살펴보았다. 『통전』은 기본 전거로 사용되었지만, 『통지』와 『문헌통고』에서는 기존 기록을 보완하여상세하게 기술하고, 불필요한 부분을 삭제하는 조정을 하였음을 확인하였다. 『문헌통고』는 고려의 고구려 계승을 자연스럽게 인지하도록 기술되었으며, 발해와 정안을 북적이 동이로 분류하였다. 『통전』의 서술은 『통지』와 『문헌통고』에 영향을 미쳤다. 삼통은관료들을 통하여 중국의 한국고대사에 대한 관념 형성의 기틀로 작용하게 되었다는 점에서 역사적 의의가 있다.
Tongdian(通典), Tongzhi(通志) and WenxianTongkao(文獻通考) are books that well described decrees and regulations, which is called the Three Tong(三通). In the traditional era of China, bureaucrats often read for reference in the history of political institution, and offi cials from Goryeo and Joseon also heavily referenced it. At that time, offi cials referred to Th ree Tong’s description of the four chapters and grasped information about four barbarians. At that time, offi cials identifi ed information about foreign countries by referring to Th ree Tong’s description of four barbarians. In this study, the preface was analyzed to understand the historical characteristics of Tongdian, Tongzhi and WenxianTongkao, and to consider the composition of the four barbarians narrative. As a result, it was confi rmed that Tongzhi referred to Tongdian and Later Hanshu(後漢書), and WenxianTongkao wrote a preface based on the records of Tongdian. In addition, in Tongzhi and WenxianTongkao, the descriptions of the major countries of Dongi, namely Joseon, Samhan, Baekje, Silla, and Goguryeo, were examined. Tongzhi and WenxianTongkao used Tongdian as a basic reference, but they supplemented the existing record, recorded it in detail, and modifi ed it to delete unnecessary parts. WenxianTongkao was described as a natural recognition of Goryeo’s succession to Goguryeo, and Balhae and Jeong’an were classified as Dong-yi. The description of Tongdian influenced Tongzhi and WenxianTongkao. Th ree Tong is of historical signifi cance in that it served as a foundation for the formation of the concept of ancient Korean history in China through bureaucrats.
