This study attempted to understand the causal relationship between job environment, emotional commitment, and customer orientation felt by physical therapists in small and medium-sized hospitals in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do. In addition, it was attempted to discover the mediating effect of emotional commitment in causal relationships and to find a way to increase their customer orientation. Summarizing the research results, work expertise and human environment among job environments had a significant effect on emotional commitment, and work expertise, physical environment, and human environment had a significant effect on customer orientation among job environments. It was found that emotional commitment had a significant effect on customer orientation. In addition, the mediating effect of emotional commitment was confirmed in the relationship between job environment and customer orientation. The implications of this study are as follows. Firstly, it was confirmed that the job environment can be composed of a human environment, a physical environment, work expertise, and a compensation system. Secondly, in order to increase emotional commitment, it is necessary to strengthen work expertise and human environment. Thirdly, in order to increase customer orientation, the physical environment as well as work expertise and human environment is important. Lastly, emotional commitment plays an important role in the causal relationship between job environment and customer orientation.
