서정주의 유품 가운데 새로운 자료가 발견되었다. 1955년 10월부터 11월 사이에 모 일간지에 연재한 것으로 추정되는 신문 스크랩이다. 이 자료는 동국대학교 중앙도서관 미당문고 내부 창고에 보관되어 있는 「해동사화초(海東史話抄)」이다. 서장 포함 전체 17장, 34회 연재물이고 제3회분이 결락되었다. 「해동사화초」는 서정주가 1960년에 제출한 교수자격인정논문인 「신라연구」의 저본이다. 동일한 텍스트라고 할 수 있다. 「신라연구」는 국립중앙도서관에 보관된 등사판 자료여서 활자 인쇄물이 아니다. 제한적인 사람들만 볼 수 있는 경우인데 진창영이 2007년에 서정주 유족의 동의하에 자신의 저서 속에 이를 부록으로 활자화해서 소개했다. 오래된 등사판 문건을 활자화하는 과정에 판독이 어렵거나 불가한 경우, 자체 오식이 있는 경우가 많아서 보완이 필요한 상태였다. 새로 발견된 「해동사화초」가 이를 해결하는 데 도움을 준다. 이 신문 스크랩은 지면 자체의 오류까지 서정주가 직접 자기 필체로 교정하였기 때문에 서정주 감수본이라고 불러도 무방하다. 인쇄공이 잘못한 것을 필자가 직접 교정한 것이다. 그러나 『삼국사기』나 『삼국유사』 원전을 인용하는 과정에서 원문을 잘못 읽은 경우도 더러 있어서 일일이 대조하여 바로잡는 과정이 필요했다. 본 논문은 그런 점에서 서정주의 「신라연구」의 원본 확정을 위한 토대작업의 성격을 가진다. 이 바탕 위에서 한글판 정본 「신라연구」가 완성될 수 있기를 기대한다.
New materials have been discovered among the remains of Seo Jeong-ju. It is a newspaper clipping presumed to have been serialized in a certain daily newspaper between October and November 1955. This material is stored in the inner warehouse of the Dongguk University Central Library Midang Bookstore. It is a series of 17 chapters and 34 episodes including the introduction, and 3 episode is missing. This materials is the original version of “The Study of Shilla”, a dissertation accredited by professor Seo Jeong-ju submitted in 1960. These two materials can be said to be the same text. “The Study of Shilla” is not a printed document because it is a copy material stored in the National Library of Korea. Therefore, although this material is only available to a limited number of people, but in 2007, with the consent of the bereaved family of Seo Jeong-ju, Jin Chang-young introduced it in print as an appendix in his book. Since the materials is old, there are many cases where it is difficult or impossible to read it in the process of printing it, and there are many cases where there is a mistake, so it needs to be supplemented. The newly discovered “Sketch the Historical Story of Old Korea[海東史話抄]” helps to solve this problem. It is safe to call this newspaper clipping Seo Jeong-ju’s proofreading because even the errors of the paper itself were corrected by Seo Jeong-joo with his own handwriting. This is my own correction of the printer’s misprinting. However, Seo Jeong-ju’s correction also had some errors in the process of citing the original texts of “The Chronicles of the Three States[三國史記]” or “The Heritage of the Three States[三國遺事]”, so it was necessary to correct them by comparing them one by one. Considering this point, this article has the character of a foundational work for confirming the original text of Seo Jeong-ju’s “The Study of Shilla”. On this basis, it is hoped that the original Korean version of “The Study of Silla” can be completed.
