AB - A mathematics education program for social justice was developed and applied in elementary school students to identify its effects on mathematical academic achievement, social consciousness, and attitude toward mathematics. In this study, a line graph unit in the second semester of the Korean fourth grade curriculum was developed into a math education program for social justice. Following that, a pre-mathematics academic achievement test and an attitude test toward mathematics were conducted to select the two groups with the highest homogeneity among the fourth graders at one school. The experimental group followed a math education program for social justice, and the control group followed the general math program using given textbook materials. The math education program for social justice was conducted over nine sessions during the period of a month on three themes (COVID-19, food, and the gap between the rich and poor), and it focused on the contents of the line graph unit that is part of the curriculum for the second semester of the fourth year. The students experienced positive effects in academic achievement in mathematics, social consciousness, and attitude toward mathematics. As suggestions, the researchers argue that it is necessary to revise the curriculum and develop quality programs that are aligned with mathematics education programs for social justice and that mathematical education for social justice should be incorporated in subsequent studies, along with problem solving and communication.
