본 논문은 “안을 향한 융합의 시선”이라는 추상적인 과제를 실천적으로 도모하기 위해 국어사와 고전서사, 고전시가 세 분야의 전공자들이 모여서 만든 일단의 결과물이다. 국어사와 고전문학은 향가 연구에 있어 떼려야 뗄 수 없는 관계이지만, 각 분야의 전공자들이 동일한 주제를 놓고 함께 고민해 본 흔적은 백년이 넘는 향가 연구사에서 찾아보기 어렵다. 사안마다 다르기야 하겠지만, 우리는 세 개의 분야를 섭렵한 한 명의 연구자보다 각기 다른 분야를 전공한 세 명 연구자의 합이 새로운 문제를 발굴하고, 해당 문제를 해결해 나가는 데 있어 때로는 효과적일 수 있다고 믿는다. 이 믿음을 구현해 보기 위해 본 논문에서는 『삼국유사』 <무왕>조의 <서동요>를 주된 텍스트로 삼아 2장에서는 <서동요>를 분석하기 위한 선행 작업으로 『삼국유사』 <무왕>조의 배치 및 서술의 의도에 대해 살펴본 후, 3장에서는 <서동요>에 대한 어석적 쟁점을 짚어보고 대안적 어석을 제시하였다. 이러한 논의를 기반으로 하여 4장에서는 소문의 유포라는 창작 목적을 달성하기 위해 창작 주체가 심어 놓은 내밀한 시적 전략과 장치, 기교 등에 대해 탐색하였다. 끝으로, 이 논문을 구성하는 모든 요소들은 각기 다른 분야를 전공한 연구자들끼리 부단한 대화와 길항, 생산적인 경쟁과 합의를 통해 작성되었다. 이 낯선 시도가 국어사와 고전문학 양쪽 모두에 신선한 선례가 될 수 있기를 기대한다.

This thesis is the result of the gathering of experts in the three fields of Korean Language History, Classical Narrative, and Classical Poetry in order to practically pursue the abstract task of <A convergence gaze towards the inside>. Although Korean Language History and Korean Classical Literature are inseparable in the study of Hyangga, it is difficult to find traces of the fact that experts in each field have pondered on the same subject together in the more than 100 years of research history of Hyangga. Although each case is different, we believe that the sum of three researchers who majored in different fields rather than one researcher who has mastered the three fields can sometimes be effective in discovering new problems and solving them. In order to realize this belief, in this thesis, the <Seodongyo> of the <Muwang> is the main text, and in Chapter 2, as a preceding work to analyze the <Seodongyo>, the arrangement and the intention of the description of the 『Samgukyusa』. After examining the discussion, Chapter 3 examines the lexical issues of <Seodongyo> and suggests alternative idioms. Based on these discussions, Chapter 4 explores the secret poetic strategies, devices, and techniques planted by the creative subject to achieve the creative purpose of spreading rumors. Finally, all the elements that make up this thesis were written through constant dialogue and antagonism between researchers who majored in different fields. It is hoped that this unfamiliar attempt will serve as a fresh precedent for both Korean Language History and Korean Classical Literature.
