윤동주 시인은 빈센트 반 고흐를 좋아했다. 윤동주가 왜 『고흐의 생애』나 『고흐의 서간집』 등 고흐에 대한 책을 갖고 있었고, 고흐의 그림과 책에서 무엇을 생각했을까, 이 글에서는 세 가지 경우만 비교해 보았다. 첫째, 빈자의 성만찬에서는 고흐의 그림 <감자 먹는 사람들>과 윤동주 동시「굴뚝」「무얼 먹고 사나」를 비교해 보았다. 못 가진 주변인을 향한 두 사람의 연민을 살펴 보았다. 둘째, 고흐의 그림 <해바라기>와 윤동주 시「해바라기 얼굴」을 비교해 보았다. 말라 비틀어져 사라져가는 존재를 상징하는 해바라기를 보면서도 희망을 꿈꾸는 두 사람을 비교해 보았다. 고흐 그림에서 씨앗, 윤동주 문학에 보이는 잔혹한 낙관주의에 대해 생각해 보았다. 특히 윤동주는 해바라기의 모습에서 여성 노동자의 모습을 그린 것이 주목된다. 셋째, 고흐의 그림 <자화상>과 윤동주의 시「자화상」을 비교해 보았다. 상처와 트라우마 투성인 자아에서 자신의 개성을 찾아가는 성장의 과정을 살펴 보았다. 타인에게 쓸모 있는 존재로 살기를 희망했던 고흐의 마음에 “모든 죽어가는 것을 사랑해야지”(「서시」)라고 했던 윤동주의 다짐이 겹친다. 고흐와 윤동주의 비교 연구는 단순한 문학 연구를 통해 삶에 대한 자세를 성찰하게 한다.
Poet Yoon Dong-ju liked Vincent van Gogh. Why did Yoon Dong-ju have books about Gogh, such as "The Life of Gogh" and "The Book of Gogh," and what did he think of in Gogh’s paintings and books? In this article, only three cases were compared. First, in the poor man’s feast, we compared Gogh’s paintings, Potato Eaters, and Yoon Dong-ju's simultaneous "Chimney" and "What do you eat and live?" We looked at the pity of the two for those around us who couldn't. Second, we compared Gogh’s painting "Sunflower" with Yoon Dong-ju's poem "Sunflower Face". I compared the two people who dream of hope while looking at the sunflower, which symbolizes a dried and disappearing existence. In Gogh's paintings, I thought about the brutal optimism in the literature of Seed and Yoon Dong-ju. In particular, it is noteworthy that Yoon Dong-ju depicts a female worker in the appearance of a sunflower. Third, we compared Gogh's painting “Self-Portrait” with Yoon Dong-ju's poem “Self-Portrait”. We looked at the process of growth in finding one's personality in the self full of wounds and trauma. In Gogh's heart, who hoped to live as a useful being to others, Yoon Dong-ju's pledge to “love everything that is dying” overlaps. The comparative study of Gogh and Yoon Dong-ju allows them to reflect on their attitudes toward life through simple literary research.
