본 연구의 목적은 교양 교육과정 개편 과정에서 학문계열별 교양 교육과정 적정화를 위해 A대학에서 개발⋅활용한 공유지수의 개념과 적용 사례를 밝히는 것이다. 공유지수의 개발은 교양 교육과정 편성 시 전공 기초적 성격의 교양 교과목을 학문계열별로 어떻게 적정화할 것인지에 관한 문제 인식에서 비롯되었다. 이 연구는 교육과정 적정화 및 전공교육-교양교육 간 갈등을 다룬 선행연구를 참고하여 공유지수의 개념을 구체화하고, 단과대학 내 교양 교육과정으로 편성⋅지정된 교과목들의 공유지수를 산출하였다. 공유지수는 단과대학 내 여러 학부⋅학과에서 특정 교과목을 교육과정에 얼마나 공통으로 편성⋅지정하고 있는가를 나타낸 ‘공유수준’과 학생이 교과목을 수강할 확률을 나타낸 ‘학생 선택 확률’의 조합으로 산출된다. A대학에서 교양 교육과정 개편 전-후의 공유지수 변화를 산출해 본 결과, 학문기초 영역에 편성되는 교양 교과목의 공유지수가 0.07 상승하는 결과를 보였다. 본 연구는 공유지수 개발사례를 제시함으로써, 교양 교육과정 개편 시 어려움을 겪는 여러 대학에서 활용할 수 있는 양적 지표를 마련하였다는 점에서 시사하는 바가 있다.
The purpose of this study is to clarify a concept of the shared index developed by University A to optimize the liberal arts curriculum in colleges. The development of the ‘shared index’ is originated from the recognition of the issue of how to apply basic liberal arts subjects of a major. A researcher embodied the concept of the shared index by referring to previous studies dealing with the problem of curriculum optimization, and then calculated the shared index of subjects organized as liberal arts curriculum in colleges. The shared index is calculated as a combination of ‘shared level’, which shows how commonly certain subjects are organized in the curriculum by various departments and divisions, and the ‘probability of students’ selection’, which indicates the probability of students taking certain courses. As a result of calculating the change in the shared index before and after reorganization of the liberal arts curriculum, the shared index of liberal arts subjects on the basic nature of a major rose by 0.07. This study presents quantitative indicators that can be taken in account, in addition to the content characteristics of courses in the liberal arts area regarding the basic nature of a major.
