국왕 정조는 비명에 생을 달리한 부친 사도세자의 추숭을 위해 다방면으로 노력을 경주했다. 존호 추상, 원소 및 사당 정비뿐만 아니라 부친 문집인 『凌虛關漫稿』의 교정과 편집을 손수 진행한 것은 추숭 사업의 일환이었다. 사도세자 문집을 교정하고 편집하는 과정에서 한편으로는 작품의 완성도를 제고하기 위해, 다른 한편으로는 왕세자로서 부친의 소양과 자질을 현양하기 위해 부친 시문 원고를 대폭 개작했으며 심지어 위작을 제작하여 문집에 수록하기도 했다. 물론 모든 작품에서 이러한 정황을 확인할 수 있는 것은 아니다. 개작 및 위작 과정을 파악하기 위해서는 해당 작품의 초고나 관련 문헌 기록이 현전해야 가능하기 때문이다. 본고에서는『睿製時敏堂草本』과 『능허관만고』 수록 작품, 사도세자 예제·예필 원고와 『능허관만고』 수록 작품, 『능허관만고』 수록 「貞聖王后弘陵誌」와 해당 지문의 초고를 면밀히 비교·분석함으로써 사도세자 시문에 대한 개작및 위작 양상을 검토했다. 이러한 일련의 과정을 통해 정조가 부친 시문의 개작 및 위작에 적잖이 관여했음을확인할 수 있었다. 문집을 간행하기 전에 원고를 세심히 교정하는 것은 지극히 일반적인 일이다. 하지만 정조는 개작 및 위작을 통해 사도세자의 학문적 역량과 문예적 능력을 가공했거니와 정조의 그릇된 추숭 방식은부친 문집의 문헌적 신뢰성에 중대한 흠결을 남기고 말았다. 고문헌을 다룰 때 텍스트 비평이 얼마나 중요한지 여실히 보여주는 사례다.
Jeongjo of Joseon, the king, made various efforts for worship (追崇) of Crown Prince Sado, his father who died an unnatural death. He personally arranged proofreading and editing of 『Neungheogwanmango (凌虛關漫稿)』, his father’s literary collection, as well as maintenance of registration (追上) of honorific name (尊號), the tomb (園寢), and the shrine (祠堂) as part of the worship project. In the process of proofreading and editing Crown Prince Sado’s literary collection, he sharply adapted his father’s manuscripts of poetry and prose and even included forgeries in his literary collection to improve the work’s level of completion and make his knowledge and talent gain fame. Of cause, there are not many examples that these circumstances can be checked. It is possible to grasp the process of adaption and forgeries only when there should be the first draft of the applicable works or articles related to it now. The thesis reviewed aspects of adaption and forgeries of his father’s poetry and prose by comparing and analyzing the works included in 『Yejesimindangchobon (睿製時敏堂草本)』 and 『Neungheogwanmango』, the manuscripts of literary works and calligraphy of Crown Prince Sado and the works in 『Neungheogwanmango』, and 「Queen Jeongseong Hongneung (貞聖王后弘陵誌)」 in 『Neungheogwanmango』 and the first draft of the applicable text. The partial examples checked are enough to infer that Jeongjo of Joseon was quite involved in adaption and forgeries of his father’s poetry and prose.
