『한국근대잡지코퍼스』는 1906년부터 1942년까지 발행된 잡지를 기반으로 구축된 형태 분석 코퍼스로서, 약 35년에 이르는 시기 동안의 언어 현상과 변화 과정을 구체적으로 살펴볼 수 있는 자료이다. 특히 정치적·사회적·문화적 격변기였던 이 시기에 이른바 ‘근대 신어’가 다량으로 유입되었던 점을 고려하면 이 코퍼스는 특히 어휘 연구의 보고(寶庫)로 평가할 만하다. 본 연구에서는 이 코퍼스를 통해 수행해 볼 수 있는 조사로서, ① 어휘의 의미 사용 양상 및 의미 변화, ② 유의 경쟁과 공인화의 양상, ③ 문법 요소의 사용 양상 및 기능 변화와 관련된 몇 사례를 다루어 보았다. 이를 통해『한국근대잡지코퍼스』가 어휘와 문법 연구에 유용한 자원으로 활용될 수 있다는 것을 실증하고자 했다.
The Corpus of Modern Korean Magazines constructed by Hallym Academy of Sciences at Hallym University is a morph-tagged corpus that contains texts published in 15 different modern magazines between 1906 and 1942. This period of about 35 years corresponds to Late Modern Korean and the early and middle part of Present-Day Korean, providing abundant data to reflect linguistic phenomena and changes from that era. Numerous modern neologisms were introduced during that period of political, social, and cultural upheaval, so this corpus deserves to be highly regarded as a rich repository for vocabulary research. This study is an attempt to demonstrate the utility of the corpus. Accordingly, it deals with several typical problems, including an aspect of lexical meaning and semantic change, a case of synonymic rivalry and lexical institutionalization, and the frequency trend and functional change of a grammatical element. These discussions illustrate the applicability of the corpus for researching the lexis and grammar of the period.
