본고는 중국 사회에서 ‘망각의 기억’으로 강요당하는 반우파운동과 ‘핵심 우파’에 주목하여 민속학의 아버지, 민간문학의 거두 중징원이 어떻게 지식인의 정체성을 지켜냈는지 살펴보는 것을 목표로 한다. 이를 위하여 먼저 반우파운동을 전후하여 정치 권력과 지식인의 관계를 역사적으로 검토하였다. 영화 『무훈전』 비판, 후스 비판, 후펑 비판을 거쳐 반우파운동에 이르기까지 공산당이 문화적, 학술적 사안에 개입하여 지식인들의 사상적 자유를 통제하고 억압했음을 확인할 수 있었다. 다음으로 시인, 산문가, 학자, 교육자인 중징원이 반우파운동을 비롯한 시대의 파도 앞에서 어떤 선택을 하며 지식인으로서의 정체성을 유지했는지를 고찰하였다. 과학, 민주, 자유를 추구하는 오사신문화운동의 아들로서 ‘백화제방, 백가쟁명’, ‘정풍운동’에 적극 동참하여 행동하다가 약 20여 년 동안 정치적, 학문적 자유를 박탈당했다. 이렇게 엄혹한 현실에 직면하여 침묵하지 않고 오사 정신을 실천한 중징원의 삶을 통해 지식인의 사회적 소명과 책임의식에 대해 생각해 볼 수 있을 것이다.
The goal of this paper is to explore the Anti-Rightist Movement and the core bourgeois Rightists that are forced as ‘memories of oblivion’ in Chinese society. At the same time, the paper intend to examine how Zhong Jingwen, known as the father of Chinese folklore and the master of folk literature, kept his intellectual identity during this period. To this end, we first examined the relationship between political power and intellectuals historically before and after the Anti-Rightist Movement. It was confirmed that the Communist Party intervened in cultural and academic issues to control and suppress the freedom of the intellectuals, for example in criticism of the life of Wu Xun, criticism of Hu Shi, criticism of Hu Feng, and the Anti-Rightist Movement. Secondly, we examined how Zhong Jingwen, known as the poet, the prose, the scholar, and the educator, made a choice in the face of the waves of the times including the Anti-Rightist Movement. We also considered how he maintained his identity as an intellectual during this period. Zhong Jingwen, as the son of May Fourth Movement Movement, actively participated in the Hundred Flowers Campaign, Hundred Schools of Thought Campaign and the Rectification Movement. For this reason, he was deprived of political and academic freedom for about 20 years. Despite the harsh reality, he did not remain silent and practiced the spirit of May Fourth Movement. Through his life, we can think about the social vocation and responsibility of intellectuals.
