이 연구는 정치 유튜브 이용이 민주주의의 기술(ICT for Democracy)로서 시민들의 정치참여를 변화시키는지 분석하고자 한다. 연구방법론은 이메일 설문조사를 바탕으로 연구가설을 증명하는 계량적 방법론(quantitative method)을 적용했다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 정치 유튜브 이용자와 비이용자 집단 간의 정치참여 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 정치 유튜브 이용자의 투입 변인별 정치참여 영향을 분석한 결과는 이념 변인이 매우 중요하고 학력과 소득도 중요한 변인임을 확인했다. 셋째, 이런 결과를 통해 한국의 정치 유튜브 이용은 이념 변인이 매우 특징적이고, 이념적 지향에 따라 정치참여 의식도 다른 것으로 나타났다. 요컨대 한국의 정치 유튜브 이용자 집단은 정치참여 면에서 이념적 양극화가 강하고, 이념에 따라 정치참여 도구로 활용하고 있음을 확인했다. 결과는 정치 유튜브 이용자의 정치참여 의식은 적극적이지만 지나친 이념 지향성이 나타날 우려도 있음을 확인할 수 있다.
This study aims to analyze whether political YouTube use changes citizens' political participation as a technology for democracy(ICT for Democracy). As for the research methodology, a quantitative method was applied to prove the research hypothesis based on an email survey. As a result of the study, first, it was found that there was a difference in political participation between political YouTube users and non-users. Second, the results of analyzing the influence of political participation by input variables of political YouTube users confirmed that ideological variables are very important and educational background and income are also important variables. Third, through these results, it was found that ideological variables were important in Korea's use of political YouTube. Also, according to the ideological orientation, the types of political participation were also found to be different. In short, it was confirmed that the political YouTube user group in Korea has strong ideological polarization and is using it as a tool for political participation according to ideology.
