이 논문은 조선 후기 疫病이 유행하던 상황에서 역병 체험을 다룬 글을 질병 서사의 관점을 활용하여 분석하였다. 특히 역병 체험을 다룬 많은 인물들 가운데 풍부한 자료를 남긴 孝田 沈魯崇(1762～1837)에 주목하였다. 심노숭의 글에서 역병과 관련한 질병 서사의 양상을 크게 ‘육체의 증언으로서의 질병 서사’, ‘말하는 몸을 통한 공감의 질병 서사’, ‘육체의 소멸과 애도의 질병 서사’로 구분하였다. 세 가지 양상에 대한 분석을 통해 육체가 반응하는 양상 및 그 변화의 과정을 매우 세밀하고 구체적으로 관찰하고 이를 기록으로 남겼다는 점, 육체적 고통만을 서술하는 데에 그치지 않고 정신적 고통까지 함께 서술하였으며, ‘말하는 몸’을 통해 주체를 재발견하였다는 점, 이와 같은 육체 증언으로서의 질병 서사는 심노숭의 육체에 대한 인식과 연관해서 해석할 필요가 있다는 점 등을 지적하였다. 또한 심노숭에게 있어 성적인 욕망에 대한 긍정, 음식에 대한 감각과 취향 등은 모두 육체적 욕구와 욕망에 대한 자연스러운 이해와 연결된다. 인간을 살아있는 감각적 주체, 육체적 주체로 인식하는 연장선 위에서 심노숭은 역병을 앓고 있는 자신의 육체적 반응을 매우 섬세하고 구체적으로 서술하고, 육체적 고통 속을 살아가는 자신의 자아에 대해 새롭게 성찰할 수 있었다. 인간을 살아있는 존재로서, 욕망과 감정을 지닌 개별적 자아로서 긍정하였던 일련의 사고와의 관련 속에서 우리는 역병 체험 서사에 나타난 육체의 증언을 해석하고자 하는 것이다.
This thesis analyzed the writings about the experience of the epidemic in the context of the epidemic in the late Joseon Dynasty using the perspective of the disease narrative. In particular, attention was paid to Sim No-Sung (1762-1837), who left a wealth of material among the many people who dealt with the epidemic experience. In No-Sung Sim's writings, the aspects of disease narratives related to infectious diseases are largely divided into 'disease narratives as testimony of the body', 'disease narratives of empathy through the speaking body', and 'disease narratives of the annihilation of the body and mourning'. And the meaning is that he observed the reaction pattern of the body and the process of its change in a very detailed and specific way and recorded it. The fact that the subject was rediscovered through this process, and that the narrative of disease as a physical testimony needs to be interpreted in relation to Sim No-sung's awareness of the body. Also, for Sim No-Sung, the affirmation of sexual desire, the sense and taste for food, etc. are all connected with a natural understanding of physical desire and desire. On the extension line of recognizing humans as living sensual subjects and physical subjects, Sim No-Sung described his physical reaction to an infectious disease in a very detailed and detailed manner, and was able to reflect on his own self living in such physical pain. In connection with a series of thoughts that affirmed humans as living beings and individual self with desires and emotions, we are trying to interpret the testimony of the body in the plague experience narrative. In addition, in relation to the literary response to infectious diseases, human conflict and anguish, as well as aspects of use as a material for memories and laughter were examined.
