본 논문은 2021년 연세대학교 박물관에서 열린 기획전시 <기억의 바다로- 도미야마 다에코의 세계>작업 전반의 과정을 담고 있다. 도미야마 다에코가 살았던 100년(1921~2021)은 다양한 형태의 국가폭력들이 쉴 틈 없이 일어난 시기였다. 제국주의 간의 경쟁은 1991년 소연방의 해체를 통해 끝나는 것처럼 보였지만, 익히 알고 있는 바와 같이 제국의 해체는 갈등의 양상이 다종다양의 모습으로 분화되었을 뿐, 국가 주도의 폭력은 여전히 세계 시민들의 일상을 공포로 몰아넣고 있다. 작가 스스로의 작품세계를 타인에게 언어로 전달할 때 사용하는 요소는 <여성>, <일본인>, <아시아인> 그리고 <세계 시민> 이라는 4종의 단어로 요약할 수 있다. 한국에서는 이 가운데 <일본인>이라는 정체성만이 주요하게 소비되고 있는 형국이었다. 이것은 작가의 작품을 소개하는 한국 미디어의 주요 키워드가 <광주>,<위안부>라는 것과도 일치하는 것이다. 이런 점은 작가의 세계관을 총체적으로 전달하려고 하는 전시기획자의 입장에서 넘어야 하는 큰 벽이었다. 본 고에서는 화가 도미야마 다에코가 일생을 통해 말하고자 했던 인간에 대한 예의라는 가치를 관람객에게 전달하기 위해 고려했던 전시의 기술적인 방식과 소통 과정에서 드러난 차이에 대해 전달하였다. 아울러 전시 관람을 통해 사회 각층이 보인 인상적인 반응들을 옮겨 적고, 대학 내 박물관이 학내 교육과 연계되는 사례를 소개하였다.
This article contains the overall process of the work of the exhibition <To Turbulent Seas of Memory – The World of Tomiyama Taeko> held at Yonsei University Museum in 2021. Through the writing, I tried to convey in detail how she communicated and practiced in the field to the audience what she wanted to say throughout her life. The 100 years (1921~2021), when the author lived, were a period when various forms of state violence occurred. Competition between imperialists seemed to end with the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, but as you know, the dissolution of the empire only diverged into various forms of conflict, and state-led violence still terrorizes the daily lives of citizens around the world. The elements that an artist uses to convey his or her work world to others in language can be summarized in four words: Women, Japanese, Asians, and World Citizens. Among them, only the identity of "Japanese" was mainly consumed in Korea. This is consistent with the main keywords of the Korean media that introduce the artist's work are Gwangju and Japanese Military Sexual Slavery. This was a wall that had to be overcome from the perspective of the planner who was trying to convey the artist's worldview as a whole. In this article, I tried to convey how the exhibition was created to convey Tomiyama's respect for humans. In addition, it talked about the touching reactions of people from all walks of life who watched the exhibition and introduced a case in which the university museum was linked to university education.
