누가복음 9:51-56은 예수가 사마리아인들과 인종적 그리고 종교적 갈등이 있음에도 불구하고, 사마리아 길을 통해 예루살렘으로 올라가려고 한다. 이러한 예수의 모습을 통해서 우리는 남북한 사이에 평화적 관계를 유지할 수 있는 기본적인 방법을 유추해 볼 수 있다. 첫째는 평화를 실천하려는 굳센 의지가 필요하다. 예수는 ‘승천하기’ 전에 예루살렘을 향하여 올라가기로 굳게 결심한다. 그리고 사마리아인들을 만나러 간다. 이것은 사마리아인들과 갈등을 해결하고자 하는 그의 굳센 의지를 보여 준 것이다. 이처럼 남북한 사이에도 서로가 평화를 실천하려는 굳센 의지가 필요하다. 이런 의지의 표현으로 속히 남북 사이에 ‘평화협정’이 체결되어야 한다. 둘째는 갈등 속에서도 만남이 있어야 한다. 유대인과 사마리아인은 인종적 그리고 종교적 갈등으로 서로 상종하지 않지만, 예수는 사마리아의 한 마을에 들어간다. 그들과 만나 교제하고 복음을 전하면, 갈등의 묵은 감정이 해소될 수 있기 때문이다. 이처럼 남북한 사이에도 자주 만남이 있어야 한다. 2018년 남과 북의 정상이 만났을 때, 우리는 평화를 실감했다. 그러기에 정치인은 정치인끼리, 체육인은 체육인끼리 그리고 종교인은 종교인들끼리 자주 만나야 한다. 셋째는 모욕과 수치를 감수해야 한다. 예수는 사마리아인들로부터 통행금지라는 모욕과 수치를 경험하였다. 그렇지만 예수는 그에 대해 앙갚음을 하지 않았다. 이처럼 남북한도 서로가 모욕과 수치를 주지 않으려고 노력해야 한다. 그리고 모욕과 수치를 당했어도, 그것을 참아내는 인내가 필요하다. 넷째는 폭력을 포기해야 한다. 모욕과 수치를 경험한 야고보와 요한은 “하늘의 불”을 명하여, 사마리아인들을 멸하고자 하였다. 말하자면 신적인 힘을 빌려 폭력적인 방법으로 그들을 멸하고 싶었다. 하지만 예수는 폭력의 방법을 버리라고 그들을 꾸짖으셨다. 이처럼 남과 북은 서로에 대해 폭력적인 행위를 하지 말아야 한다.
In Luke 9:51-56 we can see Jesus was about to get to Jerusalem via the Samaritan Road, in the midst of racial and religious conflicts with the Samaritans. Through this figure of Jesus, we can think of a basic way to maintain a peaceful relationship between the South and the North Korea. First, we need a strong will to practice peace. Jesus is determined to sail up to Jerusalem before “ascension”. And he goes to see the Samaritans. This shows his strong will to settle the conflict with the Samaritans. Likewise, there is a need for a strong will to practice peace between South and North Korea. As an expression of this will, a “peace treaty” should be concluded between the South and North Korea as soon as possible. Second, there must be a meeting in the midst of conflict. Although Jews and Samaritans do not deal with each others due to racial and religious conflicts, Jesus enters a Samaritan village. This is because if he meet them, have fellowship, and share the gospel, the bound feelings of conflict can be resolved. As such, there should be frequent meetings between the South and North Korea. When the leaders of South and North Korea met in 2018, we knew it’d go better. Therefore, politicians should meet frequently with politicians, so as others. Third, you have to accept insults and shame. Jesus experienced the insult and shame because he has been rejected to come inside the village of Samaritans. But Jesus did not pay anything back against that, so as South and North Korea should try not to insult and shame each other. And even when insulted and shamed, it takes patience to endure it. Fourth, we must give up violence. Experiencing insults and shame, James and John ordered “fire of heaven” to destroy the Samaritans. In other words, he wanted to use divine power to destroy them in a violent way. But Jesus rebuked them for using violence in that sense. So the South and the North should not engage in any acts of violence against each other.
