모든 철학은 근거에 대한 질문이다. 미셸 앙리의 철학도 의식의 근거에 대해서 질문을 하는데, 앙리가 볼 때 현상학적 생은 시간의식에 선행하는 질료적 인상과 관련되어 있다. 이런 맥락에서 앙리는 후설의 시간론을 천착하면서, 시간의식의 원천 속에 있는 인상의 위상에 대해서 탐구한다. 후설은 인상을 과거지향성 속에서 해명하려고 했지만, 의식의 흐름이 갖는 근본적 역설에 부딪히게된다. 이 때문에 앙리는 이런 후설의 방식과 다르게 의식보다 더 근원적인 의식의 생에 대해서 탐구하고자 한다. 이런 근원적 생을 앙리는 정감성에서 찾으며, 정감성을 통해서 절대적 주관성을 확립하고자 한다.

Henry seeks to explore the original life of consciousness, which is more fundamental than the flow of consciousness, rather than Husserl’s way. Henry found this life on the affectivity, and tries to establish absolute subjectivity through this affectivity.
