이 연구는 신입생 말하기 수업에 나타난 학생들의 발표불안 및 효능감을 고찰하고 그 결과를 토대로 발표불안을 완화하는 말하기 교수·학습 전략을 마련하는 데 목적이 있다. 이 연구에서는 대학 신입생 96명을 대상으로 발표불안척도 검사를 진행하고 이들의 발표불안 정도와 원인, 불안을 일으키는 다양한 상황에 대해 면밀히 고찰하였다. 연구 결과를 요약하면 발표할 내용에 대한 망각에 대한 우려가 학생들이 경험하는 발표불안의 주요원인으로 나타났으며 발표효능 검사에서 발표 자체에 대한 인식이 대체로 부정적인 것으로 나타났다. 또한 남학생의 발표불안 수준은 여학생보다 낮고 발표효능감은 여학생보다 높았다. 이상의 연구 결과를 토대로 올바른 발표 개념 정립과 발표 행위 자체에 대한 인식을 전환하려는 노력과 보다 거시적인 차원에서 학생들이 발표를 준비하도록 지도할 필요가 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 이 연구에 나타난 피험자 특성이 한국 대학 신입생의 전체 모습을 대변한다고 보기는 어렵지만 말하기 수업을 담당하는 교수자들이 간과할 수 있는 발표에 대한 학생들의 기본 인식이나 부담감의 실체를 알리고 이를 극복하기 위한 방안을 공유했다는 점에서 의미가 있다고 본다.
The purpose of this study is to examine the speech anxiety and efficacy of students in speaking classes for freshmen, and to prepare a speaking teaching/learning strategy to alleviate speech anxiety based on the results. In this study, a speech anxiety scale test was conducted on 96 freshmen college students. In addition, the degree and cause of speech anxiety, and various situations that cause anxiety were examined. The study results are summarized as follows. Concerns about forgetting what to present were found to be the main cause of speech anxiety experienced by students. And in the speech efficacy test, it was found that the perception of the speech itself was generally negative. In addition, the level of speech anxiety of male students was lower than that of female students, and the effectiveness of speech was higher than that of female students. The results of the research so far show the following facts. First, it is necessary to establish the concept of proper speech. And it is necessary to make an effort to change the perception of the speech itself. Also, at a macro level, it is necessary to guide students to prepare for speech. It is difficult to say that the subject characteristics shown in this study represent the overall appearance of Korean university freshmen. However, it is meaningful in that it informs the students of the basic perception or burden of the speech, which teachers in charge of the speaking class may overlook, and suggests a way to overcome this.
