영화 산업이 시각적 스펙터클에 집중하고 디지털 기술이 영화를 재정의하는 현시점에서도 흑백영화는 의미있는 방식으로 그 존재를 드러내며 형식적 전통 을 이어가고 있다. 본 연구 역시 시대적 흐름과는 상 충하지만 여전히 그 존재를 증명하고 있는 흑백영화 형식에 대한 관심에서 시작한다. 무엇보다 본 연구는 내러티브 전달을 위한 문제해결 과정에서 관객의 지 각을 조정하는 흑백영화만의 특별한 형식들에 주목 하고자 한다. 이를 위해 흑백영화의 지각적 특징, 미 학체계, 재현전략을 순차적으로 분석하며 흑백영화가 관객의 지각을 이끌어내는 형식적 질서와 논리를 세 부적으로 접근한다. 그 과정에서 디지털 시대 흑백영 화가 내포한 잠재력이 무엇인지를 통찰하고 그 존재 방식과 의미에 대해서도 고찰할 수 있다. 이것은 흑 백영화 형식이 영상매체의 시각적 표현성을 확장하 고 특별한 내러티브를 구체화하기 위한 미학적 선택 임을 증명하는 것이기 때문에 기존의 연구들과 차별 화된다. 또한 흑백이미지의 차별화된 재현전략과 영 화적 실천 논리를 밝히는 이 연구의 결과는 이론적 범주에만 국한되지 않을 것이며, 창의적 형식을 주도 하는 영화인들에게도 실증적이고 유용한 자료로 활 용될 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.
Even at the present time when the film industry focuses on visual spectacles and digital technology redefines movies, black and white films continue their formal tradition by revealing their existence in a meaningful way. This study also begins with an interest in the black-and-white film format that conflicts with the trend of the times but still proves its existence. Above all, this study aims to pay attention to the special forms of black-and-white films that adjust the audience's perception in the process of solving the problem for narrative delivery. To this end, the perceptual features, aesthetic system, and representation strategy of black-and-white films are sequentially analyzed, and the formal order and logic that black-and-white films lead to the perception of the audience are approached in detail. In the process, it is possible to gain insight into the potential of black-and-white films in the digital age, and to examine their existence and meaning. This is different from previous studies because it proves that the black-and-white film format is an aesthetic choice to expand the visual expressiveness of video media and to materialize a special narrative. In addition, the results of this study, which reveals the differentiated representation strategy and cinematic practice logic of black-and-white images, will not be limited to the theoretical category, but will be expected to be used as empirical and useful data for filmmakers leading creative forms.
