본 논문은 모바일 방치형 게임에 나타난 역설적 특징과 그 의미에 대해서 분석했다. 방치형 게임이란 게임 플레이에서 반복과 패턴 중심의 인터랙션이 두드러지게 나타나거나 게임 플레이 자체가 자동화되어 나타나는 유형의 게임이다. 특히 모바일 환경과 인터페이스에 최적화된 형태이자 캐주얼 게임의 한 유형으로 나타나고 있다. 모바일 방치형 게임은 플레이어와 게임 사이의 상호작용과 다변성을 최소화하고 게임 플레이에서 발생하는 재미노동을 최소화하는 메커니즘을 지향한다. 게임 세계는 주로 환상성에 기반을 둔 비현실적 시공간으로 재현된다. 게임 플레이 과정에서 플레이어는 일반적인 게임에서처럼 게임 세계 내에서 몰입적인 1인칭 시점의 주체성을 획득하기보다는, 게임 세계를 관조하고 기다리는 관찰자의 지위를 부여받게 된다. 이러한 게임 메커니즘의 특성상 모바일 방치형 게임에서는 게임 세계에서 정체성을 유지하기 위해서 의도적으로 플레이를 중지하거나 게임 세계를 방치하는 역설적인 상황이 발생한다. 이처럼 모바일 방치형 게임에서는 단순한 패턴 중심의 관조적 플레이, 무노동을 긍정하는 가치관 등이 역설적으로 나타난다. 나아가 플레이어가 속한 실제 세계의 특징인 도시성, 인간화, 속도의 가치와 대립하는 환상성, 비인간화, 휴지의 가치를 제시한다. 결과적으로 모바일 방치형 게임은 느슨한 동시에 상시적으로 접속할 수 있는 대안적 놀이의 장이다.
This study analyzed the paradoxical features and meanings of mobile idle game. Idle game is a type of games in which repetition and pattern-oriented interactions are prominent or automated in gameplay. In particular, mobile idle games which are optimized for the mobile environment and interface are emerging as a type of casual games. Mobile idle games aim at mechanisms that minimize the interaction and versatility between players and games, and simplify the fun labor that occurs in gameplay. The world of games is reproduced primarily as an unrealistic world based on designer’s fantasy. In the middle of game, a player is given the status of an observer who waits and take a break in the game world, rather than gains an immersive first person view as in the common commercial game. Due to the nature of these game mechanisms, mobile idle games have paradoxical situations in which they intentionally stop playing and neglect the actual gameplay in order to play the cognitive game. Furthermore, simple pattern-oriented game play and values that affirm laborlessness appear paradoxically. It alternatively presents the value of fantasy, dehumanization, and rest in the virtual world, which are opposed to the value of urbanity, humanization, and speed, of which the characteristics of the player's actual reality. As a result, mobile idle games have a meaning as an alternative playground that is relaxed and accessible in the fast society.
