The purpose of this study is to explore pre-service elementary school teachers’ perception of the effect of English teaching demonstration preparation for the teacher employment examination. Forty-six pre-service elementary school teachers including twenty-three English education majors and twenty-three practical course education majors participated in the study. They completed the course designed to develop their teaching demonstration competence and responded to the survey. The survey data were collected online, and the collected data were analyzed using the chi-square tests. The results of the study showed that pre-service teachers of both majors had confidence in their teaching competence and teaching demonstration tests after completing the course. They also believed that teaching demonstration practice activities contributed to improvement of their teaching competence. However, the two majors showed differences in their perceptions of the usefulness of practice activities and the extent of their improvement in teaching competence. The study suggests that teacher training programs should provide pre-service teachers with individually-customized education as well as appropriate practice activities according to their majors or preparedness to teach.
