The purpose of this paper is to reveal the pragmatic meaning of exclusiveparticle‘ttala’such as ‘presupposition’,‘conventional implicature’ under thedefinition of a Korean focus practice. Through this, it is intended to be used asan example that can be used in educating focus practice in the Korean education. After dividing ‘ttala’ into different partial propositions, the focus propositioncould be analyzed as a ‘presupposition’ and the alternative proposition could beanalyzed as a ‘assertion’ and ‘coincidentally’ as a ‘conventional implicature’. Thisconventional implicature meaning can be inferred through the grammaticalizationof ‘ttala’, which can be seen as developing from ‘counter-expectation’.
