현대 러시아 영화의 가장 큰 특징은 다양성과 지역성, 그리고 여성 감독들의 부상이다. 즉 독립 이후 러시아 영화는 전례 없는 다양성을 성취하고 있으며, 모스크바와 페테르부르크를 중심으로 한 중앙 영화인들의 작품뿐만 아니라 야쿠티야를 비롯한 지역 영화인들의 작품 제작이 활발하게 진행되고 있다는 것이다. 2021년은 특히 러시아 영화사에서 중요한 의미를 지니는데, 칸과 베니스를 비롯한 주요 국제영화제 경쟁 부문에 러시아의 중견 및 젊은 감독들의 작품이 연달아 선정되었거나 수상했기 때문이다. 러시아 영화의 전반적인 상승세를 좀 더 구체적으로 관찰하면, 여성 감독들의 활약이 두드러진 것을 알 수 있다. 특히 신세대 여성 감독들이 발표한 현대 러시아에서의 삶, 특히 여성의 삶을 소재로 한 작품들이 평단에서 높은 평가를 받고 있다. 2021년도에 발표된 주목할 만한 러시아 여성감독들의 작품으로는 2021년도 로카르노국제영화제에서 여우주연상을 수상한 나탈리야 쿠드랴쇼바 감독의 영화 <게르다>, 2021년도 산세바스찬 국제영화제에서 최우수 데뷔작 상을 수상한 레나 란스키흐 감독의 <누구의 것도 아닌>, 그리고 2021년도 얄타국제영화제 경쟁 부문에 진출했던 갈리나 우라조바 감독의 <올가미> 등이 있다. 나탈리야 쿠드랴쇼바 감독의 영화 <게르다>는 복수의 정체성을 가진 젊은 여성이 두 공간을 왕복하면서 살아가는 모습을 러시아 지방의 한 소도시의 서늘한 풍경을 배경으로 해서 묘사하고 있다. 본고에서는 영화 <게르다>의 시공간과 주인공의 정체성에 대한 분석과 함께 영화 역사에서 유사한 맥락에 위치한 다른 작품들과 비교 분석도 병행했다.
Contemporary Russian cinema is characterized by diversity, locality, and the presence of female directors. In other words, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russian cinema has achieved unprecedented diversity, and not only central filmmakers centered in Moscow and Petersburg, but also local filmmakers including Yakutia are actively producing works. The year 2021 is especially important for Russian cinema history, as works by middle and young Russian directors have been selected or awarded successively in competitions at major international film festivals, including Cannes and Venice. If we look at the overall rise of Russian cinema in more detail, we can see that the female directors’ performances are remarkable. In particular, works by a new generation of female directors about the lives of women in contemporary Russia, especially women's lives, are highly praised by critics. Notable works by Russian female directors released in 2021 include Gerda, directed by Natalia Kudryashova, who won the Best Actress award at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2021, and Lena Lanskih, who won the Best Debut Award at the San Sebastian International Film Festival in 2021 by film Unwanted, and Galina Urazova's Trap, which entered the competition section of the Yalta International Film Festival in 2021. Natalia Kudryashova's film Gerda depicts a young woman with multiple identities, living in two spaces, back and forth in the cool scenery of a small town in Russia as the background. In this paper, along with the analysis of the time and space and the identity of the protagonist of the movie Gerda, a comparative analysis with other works located in a similar context in the cinema history was also performed.
