본 연구는 한국 사회의 갈등구조인 세대차이, 지역주의, 정치 이념 차이와 정책이슈가투표에 어떻게 반영되고 있는지를 살펴보기 위해 전 서울시장과 현 서울시장의 지지도를비교 분석하였다. 분석 결과 첫째, 연령의 절대적 효과, 즉 연령이 낮을수록 진보적이고, 연령이 높을수록 보수적으로 변화될 것이라는 일부 학자들의 주장은 기각된 반면, 세대별로 겪은 경험이 다르기 때문에 각 세대별로 다양한 정치이념이 나타날 것이라는 주장을받아들일 수 있었다. 둘째, 현 서울시장 지지와 전 서울시장 지지에 있어서 나타난 지역주의는 호남 지역주의이다. 본인 고향이 호남인 경우 현 서울시장은 지지하지 않는 반면, 전서울시장은 지지하는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 본인의 고향보다 부모의 고향이 호남인 경우지역주의가 더 크게 나타났다. 셋째, 정치 이념은 전 서울시장과 현 서울시장 지지에 확실한 영향을 미치고 있었다. 즉 보수적인 유권자는 현 서울시장을 지지한 반면, 진보적인 유권자는 전 서울시장을 지지하였다. 또한 정치 이념의 영향력이 지역주의의 영향력보다 컸다. 넷째, 진보적 이념은 진보적인 정책이슈와 관계가 높고, 보수적 이념은 보수적 정책이슈와 관련성이 높았다. 그리고 진보적 정책이슈를 지지하는 유권자는 진보적인 전 서울시장을 지지한 반면, 보수적 정책이슈를 지지하는 유권자는 보수적인 현 서울시장을 지지하였다. 이러한 분석 결과는 ① 향후 세월의 흐름에 따라 각 세대별로 정치이념이 지속적으로 변화될 것이고, ② 한국인의 투표행태에 영향을 미치고 있는 호남 지역주의 역시 퇴조할 것이며, ③ 투표행태에 정치이념의 영향력이 증가될 것이고, ④ 정책이슈가 한국인의투표행태에 비중이 높아질 것이라는 정책적 시사점을 갖는다.
This study examines how generational differences, regionalism, political ideological differences and policy issues, which are conflict structures in Korean society, are reflected in voting. To this end, we compared and analyzed the support of the former and the current Seoul mayors. As a result of the analysis, first, the argument that the absolute effect of age, that is, the younger the age, the more progressive, and the older the age, the more conservative, was rejected. Meanwhile, it could be accepted the argument that each generation would represent a different political ideology because each generation had different experiences. Second, the distinct regionalism shown in the support of the current and the former mayors of Seoul is Honam regionalism. Third, political ideology had a clear influence on the support of the current and former Seoul mayors. In other words, conservative voters support the current mayor of Seoul, while progressive voters support the former mayor. Also, the influence of political ideology was greater than that of regionalism. Fourth, progressive ideology was highly related to progressive policy issues, and conservative ideology was highly related to conservative ones. And voters who support progressive policy issues are likely to support the progressive former mayor of Seoul, while those who supported conservative policy issues are likely to support the conservative current mayor.
