본 논문은 기호의 사각형을 중심으로 기호학적 사고가 전개되는 양상을 살펴보는 데목적이 있다. 이를 위해서, 장마리 플로슈의 논의와 이론을 주목하였다. 플로슈 이론의 장점은 기호학의 기본 개념들을 지금 주체들의 삶을 가장 예민하게 조건 짓는 경제, 정치, 사회, 문화라는 주제들에 적용하고 있기 때문이다. 특히 본 논문에서는 그레마스의 기질범주 개념을 통해 가치의 문제도 살펴보았다. 가치의 분화는 기호 사각형의 위치를 정당화하는 가장 중요한 근거로 사용되며, 이를 통해 기호의 사각형이 주체의 문제와 긴밀하게 연관된다는 것을 알 수 있다. 가치체계로 구성되는 기호 사각형의 각 항은 직관적으로구성되지 않는다. 인간의 다양한 경험들이 조사되고, 종합되며, 그 변화의 역사가 대조된다. 이에 대한 연구는 기호의 사각형이 서사 기호학이라는 거대한 맥락 속에서 한 부분으로 위치할 뿐만 아니라, 다양한 현상들을 기호학적으로 분석할 수 있는 독자적인 방법이될 수 있다는 것을 보여준다.
The purpose of this paper is to examine the development of semiotic thinking focused on the semiotic square. To achieve this goal, this paper makes use of Jean-Marie Floch's theories and discussions. The appeal of Floch's theory is that it applies the basic concepts of semiotics relative to the topics of the economy, politics, society, and culture. It delves most sensitively into the conditions within the lives of subjects. In this paper, the issue of value was also examined through the concept of thymic category, as proposed by A. J. Greimas. The differentiation of values is made use of as the most important reason to justify the theoretical status of the semiotic square, it is evident that square is closely related to the question of subject. Each of the terms within the semiotic square are considered as a value system and are not ideologically constructed. Various human experiences are investigated, synthesized, and the histories of their changes are contrasted. These studies show that not only can the semiotic square be positioned as a part in the grand context of narrative semiotics, but it can also be an independent method to analyze various phenomena in a semiotic fashion.
