본 연구는 사람들의 ‘기억과 구술’을 통해서 생성되는 다양한 형태의 텍스트를 대안적 용어로서 ‘구술서사’라 칭하고자 한다. ‘구술’은 기억에 의존하며 입을 통해서 발화되는 ‘매체적’ 특성을 지칭한다. ‘서사’는 사실과 허구를 막론하고 기술(記述)과 구두(口頭)의 진술을 포괄하는 이야기를 지칭한다. 이러한 ‘구술’과 ‘서사’가 지닌 의미가 결합된 용어가 ‘구술서사’이다. 하지만 구술서사라는 용어가 지닌 의미 영역이 너무나 광범위한 관계로 본 연구는 사람들의 경험이 바탕이 되어서 형성된 텍스트만을 한정해서 살펴보았다. 경험의 구술서사 연구는 1990년대부터 주목을 받기 시작했고, 다양한 분과학문의 연구대상이 되었다. 하지만 광주․전남 지역 경험의 구술서사 연구는 5.18광주민주화운동과 깊은 관련을 맺으면서 1980년대부터 진행되었다. 이후 광주․전남 지역 경험의 구술서사 연구는 한국전쟁, 노동문제, 일제강점기 피해자 문제, 도시의 공간문화사 등을 중심으로 확장됐다. 경험의 구술서사 연구는 앞으로도 해야 할 과제가 많다. 특히 경험의 구술서사 연구가 지향하는 기본 방향을 유지하면서 다양하게 제기되는 지역 문제와 접속해서 문제를 궁구할 필요가 있다. 더불어 경험의 구술서사 연구는 아카이브 문제와 함께 고민되어야 한다. 하지만 현재 광주․전남 지역은 경험의 구술서사 연구의 바탕이 될 수 있는 아카이브 체제가 구축되어 있지 않다. 사람들의 기억과 구술 자료를 수집 정리할 수 있는 아카이브 체제에 대한 지역 차원의 깊이 있는 고민이 필요하다.
This study intends to call ‘oral narrative’ as an alternative term for various types of texts generated through people’s ‘memory and oral’. ‘Oral’ depends on memory and refers to ‘media’ characteristics that are uttered through the mouth. A ‘narrative’ refers to a story that encompasses descriptive (記述) and oral (口頭) statements, whether fact or fiction. The term ‘oral narrative’ is a combination of the meanings of ‘oral’ and ‘narrative’. However, because the meaning range of the term oral narrative is too broad, this study was conducted by limiting it to the texts formed based on people's experiences. The study of oral narrative of experience began to attract attention in the 1990s and became the subject of research in various disciplines. However, oral narrative research on the experiences of Gwangju and Jeonnam started to be carried out since the 1980s, closely related to the 5.18 Gwangju Democratization Movement. Since then, the oral narrative study of the experiences of Gwangju and Jeonnam has been expanded to focus on the Korean War, labor issues, the victims of Imperial Japan’s colonial period, and the history of urban spatial culture. The oral narrative research of experience has a lot of work to be done in the future. In particular, while maintaining the basic direction of the oral narrative research of experience, it is necessary to inquire about the issue by connecting with the various local issues raised. In addition, the oral narrative research of experience should be considered along with the archive issue. However, in Gwangju and Jeonnam regions, an archive system that can serve as a basis for the oral narrative research on experiences has not been established. It is necessary to think deeply about an archive system that can collect and organize people's memories and oral materials at the regional level.
