이 연구의 목적은 박완서의 『오만과 몽상』에서 불균등발전의 도시공간이 재현되는 양상을 확인하는 것이다. 박완서는 『오만과 몽상』에서 사회․계급적으로 양극화된 도시를 포착하고 있으며, 월경의 환경적 조건으로 전유했다. 이를 나타내기 위하여 『오만과 몽상』의 배경인 1970년대 서울에서 불균등발전의 공간이 어떠한 환경적 조건으로 제시되고 있는지 파악하고, 이를 극복하기 위한 주체의 노력이 어떻게 수행됐는지 재구성했다. 이러한 작업은 『오만과 몽상』의 두 주인공인 현과 남상이 자기 계급의 공간을 떠나 타자의 세계를 탐사하는 과정을 분석하는 가운데 이루어졌다. 2장을 통해서는 현이 탐방을 통해 타자에 대한 잘못된 이해를 교정하고, 진정한 유대의 기초를 구축하는 양상을 살펴보았다. 3장을 통해서는 남상이 염탐자로서 부르주아의 사회에 틈입하는 양상을 분석했다. 이는 『오만과 몽상』에서 현과 남상의 주체성을 재평가하는 작업으로 이해할 수 있다. 이 글은 이렇듯 양극화된 도시공간 내부에서 불안정하게 움직이는 두 청년을 이동성의 주체로 평가하고자 했다. 두 청년이 타자의 공간을 향해 월경하는 일은 정확히 도시의 사회적․계급적 관계에 대하여 위협적인 실천이 되었으며, 일견 난공불락처럼 보이는 도시공간의 체제를 교란하는 일임을 드러내고자 했다.
The purpose of this study is to revisit the concept of uneven development in Park Wan-seo's Pride and Dreaming. Park captures a socially polarized city in Pride and Dreaming and appropriates it as an environmental condition for border crossing. To emphasize this, I identified what environmental conditions the urban space of uneven development were presented, and reconstructed how the subject's efforts to overcome polarization are being carried out. For this purpose, the process of the two protagonists leaving their space and exploring the world of the other was analyzed. Through Chapter 2, I examined the aspects in which ‘Hyun’ corrects misunderstandings about the poor and builds the foundation for true bonds through ‘exploration of poor’. Through Chapter 3, I analyzed the aspects in which ‘Nam Sang’ infiltrates the society of bourgeois as a spy, protects the interests of the working class, and hinders the interests of upper class. This can be understood as a work of reevaluating the subjectivity of the two main characters in the novel. This article re-evaluated the two youths who move unstably inside the polarized urban space as the subjects of mobility. It was revealed that the crossing of the boundaries was exactly a threatening practice for the city's social and hierarchical relationship, and disturbed the system of urban space, which seemed impregnable.
