이 논문은 <심청전> 이본에 나타난 ‘심청 사몽’의 변모 양상과 의미를 고찰한 것이다. ‘심청 사몽’은 적지 않은 <심청전> 이본에 나타나는데, 그 몽조 내용은 이본에 따라 다른 모습을 보이기도 한다. 이러한 몽조의 변모 양상은 크게 현몽적 몽조 유형과 상징몽적 몽조 유형으로 대별할 수 있다. 전자에는 노승 현몽, 망처 현몽, 선관 현몽 등 여러 독자적 변이 형태가 있으며, 후자에는 수레 상징몽이 있다. 몽조의 변화는 현몽적 몽조에서 상징몽적 몽조로 이루어지고 있는데, 이를 통해 몽조가 지닌 천상적 신성성이 소멸되면서 세속화되는 방향으로 변모하였음을 알 수 있다. ‘심청 사몽’의 득몽자도 이본에 따라 변모 양상을 보인다. 노승 현몽의 득몽자는 심청이며 선관 현몽, 망처 현몽, 수레 상징몽의 득몽자는 심봉사다. 이러한 득몽자의 변모는 노승 현몽이 시험몽적 성격을 지닌 데 비해, 여타의 경우는 예지몽적 성격을 지닌 데에서 기인한다. ‘심청 사몽’의 변모 양상은 서사 구조 내에 개입된 위치가 동일하지 않다는 점에서도 찾아볼 수 있다. 노승 현몽은 축원 화소와 매신 화소의 중간에 개입되어 있다. 그리고 선관 현몽, 망처 현몽, 수레 상징몽 등은 망종하직 화소에 개입되어 있는데, 각각의 위치는 차이가 난다. 이렇듯 개입 위치가 동일하지 않은 것은 각각의 ‘심청 사몽’이 담당하는 기능의 차이에서 유발된 결과다.
This thesis is analysis of the transformation aspect and the meaning of ‘Shimcheong's dead dream’ appeared in a different version of <Shimcheongjeon>. ‘Shimchoeng's dead dream’ appears in a different version of <Shimcheongjeon> greatly, the contents of omen in a dream present differently according to the script. This transformation of happening in a dream can be classified broadly into two types; appear in a dream and symbolic dream. In the former, there are several variation types on appears in a dream of an old priest, a deceased wife, a virtuous man etc. And in the latter type, symbolic dream of wagon is included. The omen of a dream is transformed from appear in a dream to symbol one. It demonstrates being secularized, losing its ethereal divinity. The aspect of change in ‘Shimcheong's dead dream’ can be represented by showing its distinct positions in a narrative structure. The old priest dream is involved in a middle of wish motif and farewell motif. And the other types of appear in a dream and involved in ending motif, but each position is far different. These differences on involvement places are the result caused by distinct function of 'Shimcheong's dead dream'.
