이 연구의 목적은 특수학교 가상현실(VR) 교육공간의 운영실태를 바탕으로 향후 VR 교육공간 추가 설치 및 교육적 활용을 위해 고려할 점을 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 5개 특수학교에 근무하고 있는 교사 5명을 대상으로 가상현실 교육공간을 어떻게 운영하고 있으며 긍정적인 측면과 개선할 점에 대하여 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 체계적인 비교분석을 통해 면담 자료를 분석한 결과 8개의 상위주제와 31개의 하위주제가 도출되었다. 특수학교의 가상현실 공간은 주로 체육 시간을 중심으로 이루어졌으며, 창의적 체험 활동 등 비교과 시간에도 활용되었다. 가상현실 공간은 물리적 환경의 제약에서 더욱 자유로운 교육 활동이 가능하고 교수·학습 측면에서도 장점이 많았다. 하지만 가상현실 프로그램 자체의 한계가 있어 향후 교육적 활용을 높이기 위한 여러 노력이 요구되었다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 하여 특수교육 현장에 적절한 가상현실 공간 설치와 운영 방안을 논의하였다.
The purpose of this study was to identify the considerations for the potential for use of virtual reality(VR) education spaces in special schools. To this end, in-depth interviews were conducted with five special school teachers concerning the operation of their VR education space with an eye toward the positive aspects as well as things to be improved. The results showed that the VR spaces in special schools mainly focused on physical education and were also used for non-curricular activities. The VR space allowed for educational activities that were free from the constraints of the physical environment and had many advantages in terms of teaching and learning. However, due to the limitations of the VR program itself, various efforts were required to increase its future use in education. Based on these results, we discussed several considerations for future educational use of VR were discussed.
