This paper aims to define ‘Candlelight Vigils in 2016-2017’ as a ‘Minjung event’, and to clarify why it is seen as a Minjung event from the perspective of Bergsonism. By analyzing the events in 2016-2017, this paper also tries to discuss ‘new Minjung’ emerged in Korean society. This paper focuses on the theory of a ‘Minjung event’ which originated by Ahn Byung-Mu. He defined the term ‘Minjung’ as an ‘event’, not a person or substance. However, the problem is that his theory is not clearly established as a theory despite its academic originality. Thus, This paper tries to reinterpret the concept of ‘Minjung event’ from Bergson’s thought, especially with his theory of memory. In Bergson’s thought, the theory of time and theory of subjectivity are connected as one, and it also has a close affinity with panentheism. If it is applied to Minjung theology, the issue of subjectivation as Minjung through a Minjung event can be explained. I hope this study can contribute to Minjung theological understanding on Candlelight Vigils in 2016-2017 and a new exploration of Minjung theology as well.
