본 논문은 고전 산문이 현대의 글쓰기에 이바지할 수 있는 지점에 대해 고민해 본 것이다. 특히 소품문과 현대 글쓰기와의 연관성을 구체적으로 논의함으로써 소품문의 글쓰기에 대한 관심을 환기하고자 하였다. 먼저는 중세 시대에 생활 문화에서 글쓰기가 어떤 양상으로 이루어졌는지를 살피고 고전 산문의 글쓰기 특성에 대해 검토해 보았다. 이를 바탕으로 고전 산문 가운데 소품문의 현대 글쓰기 활용 방안에 대해 살펴보았다. 소품문의 글쓰기 미학과 감성, 소품문이 추구하는 정신과 지향, 글쓰기 태도와 방식은 현대의 글쓰기와 많이 통한다. 소품문의 글쓰기는 고문(古文)처럼 외부의 권위를 빌려와 쓰는 게 아니라 자기 내부로부터 나온 솔직한 감정을 쓴다는데 큰 미덕이 있다. 또 소품문의 일상성은 단순한 유희와 잡담에 그치는 게 아니라 새로운 인식과 발견으로 나아가고 삶에 대한 통찰을 보여준다. 그리하여 현대 글쓰기에 적용할 만한 소품문의 특성을 셋으로 나누어 논의해 보았다. 소품문 작가들은 일상에서 길어 올린 깨달음을 바탕으로 관계와 존재에 대한 새로운 성찰을 보여주고 있다. 특히, 소품문의 자연 사물에 대한 글에는 생명, 공존, 다양성에 관한 성찰이 가득하며 오늘날의 기후 환경 위기와 연결되어 있어서 더욱 뜻깊다. 이에 자연 소재 소품문의 현대 글쓰기 적용 방향을 더욱 구체적으로 제시해 보았다. 지금까지 연구자가 꾸준히 진행해 온 생태 글쓰기 연구를 바탕으로 자연 소재 소품문이 어떠한 점에서 현대 글쓰기 교육에 유용한지를 살펴보았다. 소품문 작가들이 자연과 사물을 인간과 예술, 현실과 연결하여 관계와 존재에 대해 이야기하는 글쓰기는, 파괴와 차별의 언어로 가득한 오늘날의 글쓰기 교육에 유의미한 도움을 제공할 것이다.
This study is to concern about the dedicating aspects of the classical prose for modern writing. Especially any connection between classical short essays and modern writing is investigated so that the concern of short essays writing may be newly acknowledged and increased. First the aspects of writing way into the daily life culture in the Middle Ages is to be considered, then the characteristics of classical prose writing is to be shown. On this basic study of classical prose, the way of using classical short essays in modern writing is proposed. The aesthetic and sensitivity of short essays, its seeking spirits and direction, its attitude of writing and approach are deeply connected with modern writing. The most virtue of classical short essays writing is writing sincere feelings coming from writer’s own hearts, not borrowing the external authority as the ancient texts. The routines of short essays is not limited only for pleasure and joke, but to represent the deep thinking about life, enlarging up to the new recognition and discovery. Therefore, there are three key characteristics of short essays applied to modern writing. The writers of short essays could obtain the recognition from the daily routines and reach out to the new consideration of relationship and existence. In particular, in short essays about natural things there are plenty of deep consideration about life, co-existence, variety, which mostly is meaningful in considering today’s climate crisis. On this base is shown the way of applying classical short essays about nature to modern writing. As the author of this study has been studying the ecological writing, the usefulness and dedication of short essays about nature for modern education of writing is appealed and pointed out. The writing talking about relationship and existence, with the classical short essays writers’ communicating with nature and things related with human, arts and reality, is so useful and helpful for education of today’s writing full of destruction and discrimination.
