본고는 낙선재본 『설월매전』 중 언어적 요소의 번역양상을 살피는 것을 목적으로 한다. 낙선재본 『설월매전』 연구의 일환으로 어휘, 단문, 문장 등 작품을 구성하는 문장 단위의 번역양상을 고찰하고자 한다. 구체적인 연구 방법으로 필자는 번역자가 낙선재본『설월매전』의 번역작업을 수행하는 과정에서 활용한 번역방법을 따라 유지, 대체, 생략번역으로 나누어 고찰하였다. 유지 번역은 원문을 그대로 재현하는 방식으로 주로 축자번역과 차음번역으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 대체 번역은 상/하위어로 원문을 치환하는 번역방식이고 주로 일상생활을 묘사하는 어휘에서 많이 찾아볼 수 있다. 마지막 생략 번역은 번역자가 번역하는 과정에서 원문의 일부를 의식적으로 생략하는 방식으로 사건 전개에 크게 상관없거나 독자층에 맞지 않은 내용이 대부분이다. 이러한 언어적 요소 외에는 낙선재본 『설월매전』 중 문체의 번역양상에 대한 검토도 진행할 예정이다. 이러한 연구를 통해 낙선재본 『설월매전』의 번역양상을 보다 더 객관적으로 평가할 수 있으리라 기대한다
The objective of this study is to examine translation characteristics of linguistic elements of Nakseonjae-bon Seolwalmae-jeon. As part of the search on Nakseonjae-bon Seolwalmae-jeon, this study examines translation characteristics of this work in a sentence unit among components such as vocabulary, short sentence, sentence, etc. As to the specifi c research method, the translation methods used by the translator in the translation work of Nakseonjae-bon Seolwalmae-jeon are classifi ed to maintenance, substitution, and omission. Maintenance means to represent the original text as it is. It is divided mainly to verbal translation and loan translation. Substitution means to substitute the original text with the corresponding hypernym or hyponym. Th is method is used commonly for words that depict the daily life. Finally, omission means to omit a part of the original text intentionally in the process of translation because it is not closely related to the story development or not appropriate for the expected class of readers. In addition to such linguistic elements, style translation characteristics of Nakseonjae-bon Seolwalmae-jeon also will be examined. It is expected that the fi ndings of this study contribute to evaluating translation aspects of Nakseonjae-bon Seolwalmae-jeon more objectively.Seolwol-mae jeon collected in the Nakseonjae can be evaluated more objectively through this study.
