A Study on Yim Sang-jeong(林象鼎)'s prose writing ritual: focused on 「SooPillok(隨筆錄)」

기존 연구에서는 사대부의 표리부동에 대한 비판과 한미한 인물의 유교적 윤리 실천이라는 주제를 중심으로 林象鼎의 산문 세계를 밝힌 바 있다. 본고는 여기에서 더 나아가 이러한 임상정 산문의 주제가 어떠한 의식에서 비롯되었는지 고찰하고자 「隨筆錄」을 중심으로 검토하였다. 「수필록」은 임상정이 30대 중반 전후에 창작한 작품으로, 단일 필기 저작은 아니지만 독립된 형태로 되어 있어 필기의 성격을 띠는 글이다. 그 내용을 보면, 귀감이 될 만한 인물들의 일화, 자신을 평가하거나 자기 삶의 지향을 밝히는 기사, 세속에서 행해지는 의례에 대한 비판이 주축을 이룬다. 이는 모두 당시 임상정이 가졌던 사대부의 자의식에서 비롯된 것이다. 「수필록」에서 보이는 저술 의식은 크게 ‘인간 내면의 嗜慾에 대한 경계’, ‘自足과 自娛로의 지향’, ‘세속의 잘못된 儀禮의 개정’이다. 이는 모두 단순히 「수필록」에서 간취할 수 있는 저술 의식일 뿐만 아니라, 그의 여러 산문을 관통하는 것이다. 물론 이러한 의식은 조선의 사대부라면 으레 가질 법한 것으로 임상정만의 독특한 면은 아니다. 다만 대과에 급제하지 못해 현달하지 못했지만 사대부의 자의식과 문인으로서의 정체성을 가졌던 임상정이 이러한 저술 의식을 바탕으로 다양한 산문을 창작했다는 점은 간과할 수 없는 부분이다. 그러한 점에서 다소 평범해 보이는 이러한 저술 의식을 밝힌 본고가 임상정의 문학 세계를 이해하는 데에 일조하리라 기대한다.

The former paper examined characteristics of proses by Yim Sang-jeong((林象鼎, 1681-1755), paying particular attention to criticism of nobilities’ treacherous attitudes and humble figures’ ethical behaviors. This paper explores why he wrote a series of proses, based on the existing research. The collection of anecdotal essay 「SooPillok(隨筆錄)」, which he wrote in his late thirties, is a kind of miscellaneous notes. This collection roughly consists of three major themes: anecdotes of exemplary people, self-evaluation and reflection on lifestyle, and criticism of Ceremonies and Rites(儀禮) performed in mundane world. His other proses were also wrote based on these themes. Of course, many works were written by literati in Chosŏn under these themes. Still, we cannot overlook the fact he embodied his self-consciousness and identity as literati and a nobility in his writings, although he could not pass higher examination. This paper will contribute to understanding of his writings.
