19세기 이후 근현대 호남 유학의 중심을 이룬 대표적인 문인집단 중 하나는 노사학파(蘆沙學派)였다. 기정진(奇正鎭, 1798~1879) 생전에 그 면모를 갖춘 노사학파는 기정진 사후에 노사학파의 중심에서 활동한 기우만(奇宇萬, 1846~1916)을 중심으로 학파의 외연 확대와 지속이 이루어졌으며, 그의 문하에서 배출된 직전 제자들은 다양한 학문 활동을 전개하며 재전(再傳), 삼전(三傳)으로 이어지는 문인을 배출하며 노사학파의 지속과 확장에 기여하였다. 본고는 이제까지 상대적으로 연구자들의 시선에서 비껴있었던 20세기 정통 유림의 규모와 활동에 유의하여 호남 지역을 중심으로 근현대 유학의 흐름을 조성한 대표적인 문인집단 중 하나인 노사학파의 흐름 가운데 그 중심을 이룬 기우만 중심의 학맥에 관하여 그 양상을 검토하였다. 이 부분에 관한 연구는 초보적인 단계에 있다는 점을 고려하여, 먼저 노사학파 내에서 가장 비중이 컸던 기우만의 직전 제자가 펼친 강학 활동을 중심으로 그 내용을 정리하였다. 그리고 이들 문하에서 배출된 기우만의 재전과 삼전 제자의 대체적인 규모와 활동 내용, 그리고 이들이 남긴 문집의 목록 등을 확인하여 제시하였다. 이를 통해 노사학파의 전체적인 규모와 학맥의 계승 양상에서 기우만을 통해 이어진 학맥의 계승이 차지하는 위상과 역할을 확인하고, 이를 기초로 20세기를 관통하며 기우만을 중심으로 이어진 노사 학맥의 지속이 가지는 의미와 한계를 시론적(試論的)으로 제시하였다.
One of the representative literary groups that formed the center of Confucianism in the modern and contemporary Honam area since the 19th century was the Nosa school (蘆沙學派). Ki Woo-man (奇宇萬, 1846~1916), who worked at the center of the Nosa school after the death of Ki Jeong-jin (奇正鎭, 1798~1879), produced more than 1,500 literary disciples through continuous educational activities. And his disciples developed various academic activities focusing on educational activities, produced disciples, and contributed to the continuation and expansion of the Nosa school. This paper first focused on the scale and activities of the 20th century orthodox Confucian scholars, which had been relatively different from the researchers' eyes. Then, the study examined the aspect of the school system centered on Ki Woo-man, who was the center of the flow of the Nosa school, one of the representative literary groups that created the flow of modern Confucianism centered on Honam area. Considering that this study is in the basic stage, this study first summarized the contents of the educational activities of Ki Woo-man's disciples, who had the largest portion in the Nosa school. And the general scale and contents of the disciples produced by the disciples of Ki Woo-man, and the list of the literary works left by them were confirmed and presented. Through this, the status and role of succession of the Nosa school which has been carried out through the leaning in the overall scale of the Nosa school and the succession of the school were confirmed. Based on this, the meaning and limitations of the continuation of the Nosa school, which passed through the 20th century and centered on the Ki Woo-man, were presented experimentally.
