This study investigated the effectiveness of Faculty Learning Community(FLC) in a university setting to improve the faculty members' teaching competencies. The study collected data from 127 faculty learning communities supported by the Center for Teaching and Learning in A university from 2012 to 2016. The study analyzed data based on the three research questions; 1) how the content of the FLC reports was related to the teaching competencies, 2) how the participants perceived about the effectiveness of FLC, and 3) how the course evaluation results have changed after the FLC participation. A content analysis was employed for categorizing the FLC study themes into 6 teaching competencies, and an Word-cloud program was used for visualizing key words revealed from the FLC reports. Also statistical analysis method including ANOVA, paired-t and ANCOVA to explore the changes in the participants’ perception and course evaluation scores. The finding of this study are as follows: First, in the aspect of research topics, ‘developing the teaching strategy’ was the most frequently reported and ‘restructuring curriculum’ and ‘utilizing teaching material & instructional media’ were next most frequent. Second, the result of the satisfaction survey showed very positive responses. The item, “having a chance for the reflection on the education,” indicated the highest score of satisfaction. Third, the faculty member’s course evaluation scores were slightly improved after participating in FLC. Finally, the study suggested several implications for the university CTL to support the FLC in order to improve faculty members' teaching competencies.
