Antastic marvel and scientific imagination in science fiction narratives Kim Cho-yeop’s novel Spectrum

본 연구는 김초엽의 소설 <스펙트럼>을 중심으로 SF 서사에 나타난 환상적 경이의 문학적 형상화 양상을 살펴본다. <스펙트럼>은 영웅 신화의 서사구조를 수용하여 출발-시련ㆍ입문-귀환의 형식을 갖추고 있다. 또한 액자구조의 서술 과정에서 우주 영웅 희진은 희생양의 모습으로 나타나지만 결국 진정한 영웅의 의미를 획득한다. 이를 가능하게 하는 것은 낯선 외계 생명체와의 조우를 통한 환상적 경이의 체험이다. 외계 생명체 루이의 환상적 존재 양상과 이들의 상징 언어는 서사의 핵을 이루는 노붐(novum)으로 기능하며 인지적 소외(cognitive estrangement)를 일으켜 독자의 환상 체험과 인식의 전환을 이루어낸다. 루이는 여러 개체들로 그 영혼이 이어지며 유한한 시간성을 극복하여 낯선 타자인 희진을 보살핀다. 루이가 그리는 아름다운 그림은 무리인들이 사용하는 색채 언어로, 과거를 보존하고 기록하여 돌봄을 가능하게 한다. 루이와 희진의, 언어를 초월한 소통과 교감, 그리고 우주에서의 체험을 들려주고 루이의 기록을 알려주려는 희진의 노력은 서술자인 ‘나’의 인식을 전환시키는 계기가 된다. <스펙트럼>은 SF 장르의 서사 특성을 효과적으로 활용함으로써 포스트휴먼 시대에 인류가 더욱 깊이 탐구해야 할 것은 과학기술로는 불가능한, 도덕적 행위 주체의 윤리임을 상기시켜 준다.

This paper the literary form of fantastic marvels in science fiction narratives, focusing on Kim Cho-yeop's novel SpectrumSpectrumadopts the narrative structure of the hero myth departure-trial and initiation–return. In the narrative of the frame structure, the main character Hee-jin, but eventually a true hero. experience of fantastic marvels encounters with unfamiliar extraterrestrial creatures on an alien planet. The fantastic existence of the extraterrestrial creature Lui and the symbolic language function as a Novum forming the core of the narrative and cause a cognitive alienation enabling reader to experience fantasy and perception. Lui, whose soul is connected various individuals, overcomes the finite temporality of living things and cherish and take care of Hee-jin. The beautiful paintings that draws are the color language used by Lui’s tribe he pictures preserve and record the past-making it possible for Lui to care for Hee-jin. By effectively utilizing the narrative characteristics of the genre, Spectrum reminds us that what needs to be explored more deeply in the post-human era is the ethics of moral agents, which cannot be done with science and technology.
