This study aims to explore the grammaticalization process of -eulgapse ‘even if’ or ‘in comparison with,’ which functions as a connective ending, and to discuss its syntactic and semantic characteristics.-Eulgapse is an expression in the Gyeongnam province dialect of Korean, and it is functioning as a connective ending these days. -Eulgapse was once a combined form of [-eul + gap + -e] ‘with the money to buy something,’ and although the dictionary describes -eulgapse as simply an expression with the same meaning as another connective ending -eulmangjeong, ‘even though,’ it has more diverse semantic functions. Several combined forms functioning as a connective ending, such as -neun barame, ‘resulting from,’ have been studied a lot, but there was not sufficient discussion of the grammaticalization and the functions of -eulgape. This study discusses the grammaticalization process of the combined form of [-eul + gap + -e] into -eulgapse, and identifies its two basic functions. One is concession (-eulgapse1), and the other is comparison (-eulpase2).
