이 연구의 목적은 한편으로 분쟁과 대량학살 이후 르완다에서 제도적 개혁을 통한 정의의 실현 노력과 함께 다른 한편으로 평화와 화해, 치유와 용서를 지향하는 교육적 노력을 살펴보고자 하는데 있다. 이를 위해 이 연구는 첫째, 르완다에서 이루어진 분쟁과 대량학살 과정과 이 과정에서 교육의 붕괴와 왜곡 현실을 살펴보고, 둘째, 분쟁과 대량학살 이후 이루어진 교육의 실태와 특징을 고찰하며, 셋째, 르완다 정부의 개혁 실천과 평화 지향의 교육 노력을 살펴보고, 끝으로 이러한 노력이 르완다의 평화 형성에 주는 의미와 함께 르완다 사례의 한반도 평화와 통일교육에의 활용 가능성 차원에서 그 의미를 간략하게나마 도출해보았다.
The purpose of this study is to examine efforts to realize justice through institutional reform in Rwanda after conflict and genocide, and also to examine educational efforts aimed at peace and reconciliation, healing and forgiveness. For this purpose, first, this study will examine the conflict and genocide process in Rwanda and the reality of the collapse and distortion of education in this process. Second, this paper examines the actual conditions and characteristics of education after conflict and genocide in Rwanda. Third, this study attempts to examine the reform practice of the Rwanda government and the educational effort toward peace. Finally, this paper intends to briefly deduce the meaning of these efforts for peace formation in Rwanda and the possibility of application of the Rwanda case to peace and unification education on the Korean Peninsula.
