This paper discusses the crime pattern of the ‘lost ten years’ in ‘Copycat’ by Miyuki Miyabe, a Japanese socialist mystery writer. The analysis focused on the loneliness of large cities and the media, family breakdown and missing women, and the abused child leading to crime. The collapse of the bubble economy had a profound impact on every corner of the lives of people living in that era. In this work, the loneliness of those who face such a fate and the personal choices derived from that loneliness lead to brutal crimes. This is a crime that cannot be tolerated under any circumstances, but it can be seen that behind the crimes they commit, the unfortunate fates imposed by society without a choice exist as a motive for moving them. As a socialist mystery writer, Miyabe overlooks all of the special events that occur beyond the boundaries of society and the individual, and the social structure in which one marginalized neighbor who can become the whole of this society has no choice but to commit absurd events. Instead, I drew vividly in my work. Through this work, we will be able to confirm once again that in Miyabe’s works, there is a perspective of understanding and communication towards a lonely individual living in the ‘lost ten years’.
